Canopy Sanding?
Posted by Iva Biggun on Thursday, April 17, 2008 3:21 PM
Is there any ultra fine sanding paper or other tool that people could recommend for polishing canopies?

I would recommend the micro-mesh system, though everyone seems to be out of it right now. Sigh [sigh]

Thank you for the information. It seems to be out of stock at my regular as well. I'll search the forums about it until I can call them tomorrow.

Thanks

This is the technique I've been using for a while and it works pretty well for me.  All you need is a tri-grit polishing stick and Bare-metal's Plastic Polish.

I second the polishing stick and Bare Metal Polishing compound. You can also use other polishes like Novus, Flitz or even toothpaste. Wet sand/polish with the polishing stick, then dip in Future if you don't have the polishing compounds. If it isn't to your satisfaction you can strip off the Future with Windex or alcohol and then use a polishing compound to clear it up further.

Polishing sticks can be found at you local drug & department stores in the nail care aisle.  They come in various shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the info and the links. I ordered a Micro Mesh set last week but I'll check for those sticks as well.

Check out an auto body supply store for 800 to 2000 grit sandpaper, and finish it off with Brasso or toothpaste.  Nothing to be afraid of when sanding clear parts!
