Historic Aviation Memorial Museum - Tyler, Texas - March 2016
Posted by GAF on Monday, March 21, 2016 3:56 PM

I had occasion to visit the HAM Museum in Tyler, Texas this past weekend (March 19th, 2016).  This is a small museum located at the regional airport just west of Tyler, housed in the old terminal building.

For such a small museum, they have quite a number of interesting artifacts and aircraft, including some very knowledgable staff.  The museum website may be found here:

It is well worth a visit if you are in the area.  Here's a sampling of some of the items contained in the museum.  Please excuse the photography as I was trying out a new camera and probably didn't get the indoor settings adjusted properly.

The rest of the images from the museum may be viewed at my Photobucket page here:

I'll try to get the aircraft photos from the museum and the Collings Foundation aircraft that were there soon.

As promised, here are shots of the aircraft on exhibit at the HAM Museum.  These include an FJ-4A Fury (looking very weather-worn), a rare aircraft.  Also, an F-4D which is a Vietnam veteran.  Please excuse the photography.  New camera, old cameraman.  Smile

Details of the F-4D Phantom may be found here:

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the pics!  It's a timely subject; I saw a feature about this museum on Texas Country Reporter, on PBS, just yesterday.    I need to check it out for myself.Big Smile

I am a native Texan currently living in Katy Cinco Ranch west of Houston. Never knew this museum existed. Looks like a good one, so may just need to round up the family and take a trip one weekend soon.

I didn't either, and I only live about 40 minutes away.  There are several veterans who volunteer at the museum, and they can give you some interesting stories.

One, Col. Bill Halbert is a WWII, Korea and Vietnam veteran (flying B-26s, F-86s and F-100s).  Ask if he's around when you visit and shake his hand.  There are also a couple of aviation museums just west of Fort Worth, but I haven't had the chance to make it over there.  Then there is the Global Air Power Museum in Shreveport, LA that is worth visiting.

You could make a grand tour out of that!  Big Smile

Please add this museum to your North Texas tour.  It's really a neat lil' gem in Addison.

That would go along nicely with the two just west of Fort Worth.

These two museums are within a stone's throw of each other.

Next time people are up for a modelling convention in Dallas or Fort Worth, these would be good places to take a side trip to.
