Jenny squadron insignia
Posted by Don Stauffer on Thursday, November 09, 2017 9:14 AM

I am building a 1:48 scale JN-4 Jenny. I am going to build it as the one in the National Air and Space Museum.  There is a mule squadron logo on the side of the fuselage which I will have to make with inkjet decals.  But the photos I have found of that aircraft are limited, and do not show that rear fuselage area very well.

I thought if I could identify the squadron whose insignia that is, I could do a google image search on that, instead of the airplane itself, but I have been unable to find info on the airplane other than it is a JN-4 at NASM.  Anyone know the history of that bird?

Lacking that, if anyone knows of a good picture of that logo, square on, I would appreciate that!

I guess you would have seen it...but in case you haven't, the NASM's slideshow has a couple pretty decent shots of the insignia in question here. Shots # 1 and # 8 are pretty clear---looks like there isn't much detail on the creature, whatever it is.

Alas, no good clues as to unit or special markings. You would think NASM might consider hobbyists like ourselves a pretty dedicated part of their constituency, and readily provide such details.

Good luck with your project. I've got the same kit, but haven't made it past the 'interior framing' stage.
