     You said it. U.S. Govt. is not above smearing folks.  Let's skip current topics though.  I followed the UFO community for many years, they sure know about the gov'ment and bureaucratic pressure. Those UFO research organization folks have some serious stamina to take the abuse and keep on going. I always thought it was intriguing how several knowledgeable persons changed their minds about UFO's and joined the UFO Believers community in spite of the ridicule (and swamp gas).   There's a new show coming on called Project Blue Book.    You said it. Janes had some good timely stuff. Unbelievable what they got pictures of.  And not just pictures... specs on armor, armaments, munitions, weight, speed, and even got close on diving depth.

     I'm sure Governments plan certain leaks. No doubt to scare adversaries or to make them spend money.  I suspect many members on the Ships forum have had Security Clearances.  We know how it works.  There's stuff we can't talk about and  then we read in our favorite Mag all the stuff we still can't talk about.  Frustrating, ain't it!

     I always wondered how we got some pictures of the latest technology of our Counterparts in the Worlds Navies. How else would we know of the Type94 and 95  PLAN Subs unless it got leaked.   No doubt leaked in order that more money can be provided so that there is  no " Mine Shaft Gap".  Of course the other World Powers do the same. I can get some pretty accurate models of The USN's Special Ops boats like Parche and  Seawolf SSN 575 from Russian manufacturers but the USN and powers that be won't release anything.   Well, everything leaks, that's why there are bilge pumps. 

      So the Son of Samuel Morison got pardoned by President Clinton. Well, maybe we owed it in memory to the father, A great Historian and Naval officer

 As you can see , the U.S. Govt. is not above smearing someone after they have been rendered defenseless . They did something similar to a well known author after his salvage and research company found some sunken Navy vessels , the Navy COULD NOT locate .  They informed the Navy who then called them pirates and thieves for even looking at those vessels .

 Yet the Govt , Because it doesn't generate money for Senators and Congresspersons won't embark on these voyages on their own . Let someone else do it and then we'll get ownership thereof .

  What about all the Buships info that Janes Fighting Ships 1959 edition  , had ALL the pictures of our new ships in the issue . Where did those photos come from ?

The analyst, Samuel Loring Morison, a civilian, was found guilty of all four counts in the indictment. Mr. Morison, a grandson of the naval historian Samuel Eliot Morison, faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and $40,000 in fines

BALTIMORE — A Maryland man whose espionage conviction made headlines in the 1980s acknowledged a more common crime Thursday: theft.
Samuel Loring Morison pleaded guilty to stealing boxes worth of government records from a naval history archive in the nation's capital. The records were related to his grandfather, a prominent historian.
Morison, 70, pleaded guilty to theft of government property and was sentenced to two years of probation. He must also cooperate with officials in returning any additional items that belong to the government. A prosecutor said Morison stole thousands of records — including maps, charts and photographs — from the Naval History and Heritage Command in Washington, which preserves U.S. naval history.
The records, which filled 34 boxes, were related to his grandfather, Rear Adm. Samuel Eliot Morison.
The elder Morison, a Harvard University professor who died in 1976, was a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner in the biography category for biographies of Christopher Columbus and John Paul Jones, a hero of the Revolutionary War. He also wrote a 15-volume history of World War II naval operations that was published between 1947 and 1962. Records the younger Morison took were used by his grandfather in writing the series.
Prosecutor James Warwick said Thursday during a court hearing that the stolen records were appraised at $10,000 to $30,000, but he called them "irreplaceable." In court the judge was shown about a dozen of the objects Morison took, including a map with his grandfather's handwritten notes and a photographic print of the famous flag raising on Iwo Jima.
Morison's attorney, James Wyda, said during the hearing that Morison, who did paid research work at the Naval History and Heritage Command, was going through difficult times financially and was in poor health. He said his client "lost his perspective" and "convinced himself he was entitled" to the documents, which were found in his home in Crofton, Maryland. He also had an agreement with a bookstore to sell other records through eBay.
In 1985, Morison was convicted of leaking spy satellite photographs to the British military magazine Jane's Defence Weekly. At the time he gave the magazine the photographs of the Soviet Navy's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier under construction.
Morison was convicted of two counts of espionage and two counts of theft of government property and sentenced to two years in prison. He was pardoned by President Bill Clinton in 2001.
