Hosting for posting.
Posted by Don Stauffer on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 10:53 AM

I took some nice sunlight shots of my latest finished project, and decided to use POSTIMAGE as my photo hosting site, after some experiments.  I posted a longer thread with several images in the aircraft forum, but here is a single image sample

Hello Don!

I was glad to see you already found a service, that allows us all to see your photos! Thanks for posting and have a nice day

That looks good Don. I've also started using PostImage and it seems to work well. My only issue is that you are unable to edit your photos on there, i.e crop pics. At least I have yet to find out how if you can.

I find it easy to do it first on my computer.  There are some inexpensive or even free photo editors (software) out there.

Thanks, Don, and Joe, for mentioning Postimage.org.  I'm going to try it myself, too, and see how easy or difficult it is to use.

Best regards,

Brad

I'm with Don; I've always edited my photos on my laptop first, before uploading them to a hosting site.  I use MS Paint, because it came with my OS.  But at Postimage, there is a feature when you upload, that lets you choose to have the uploader change the photo size as you upload the images.  Not exactly the same thing as editing to crop a photo, but that feature might prove useful, too.

Where are all my photobucket pics? Are they out of business? No pictures link to my old posts.

Not even the extortion gauge? PB pulled the rug out from under all their non paying members a month or so ago... you want your pictures to show, pay for a subscription... oh and their cheap subscriptions are now off the table...

How can they get away with this? They now want hundreds to host! It was free! Loaded with ads but free. Is there anywhere to go for free?

Where have you been for the past two months?  Smile

Photobucket announced that they are eliminating free image hosting, and they removed image hosting from all but their most expensive paid account.

For people who were free customers, that means that as of the announcement, back in June, I think it was, the image links that they embedded in posts throughout cyberspace no longer return images.  They return instead a logo (the extortion image, I think Stik called it) that says to upgrade your accoount.

For people with paid accounts other than the "Plus500" ($499.99 a year), Photobucket will continue to respond to the link and show the image, through to the end of next year, provided we keep the account current by renewing.

So, there has been a scramble to find other image host sites.

Apparently, PB did this because too many people were using ad blockers to suppress the myriad popup ads that PB started showing early last year.  But I think they are now locked in a slow downward spiral--they sold more ads to raise money, but the aggressive ads caused people to look for another host, or to use an ad blocker, which potentially reduces the amount of ad revenue.  So, some bright marketing boys say, "Let's yank the free third-party hosting", which seems to be chasing even more people away, not just the ones who used the service free of charge, but those of us who paid to get more storage space.   About as bright as those programming execs at Fox who cancelled "Firefly".

If one did it,then all of the free sites will catch and start charging eventually.

I gave up using PB 3 years ago. Got tired of all the junk and BS they offer.

I experimented with postimage and found it it to be good. My only concern is that eventually they too will start charging so I  kept my subscription with ImageShack. It's worth the annual $39 fee.
