14/0 thread

Well I got the 14/0 thread and it really isnt any different than the 8/0, they look about the same. I have been reading David Griffiths book on ship modeling and he talked about Caenis 20 Denier thread as being very fine. I bought some and it is very fine. He also talked about using thread from a nylon cord that you litteraly take apart. I had a cord at work probably 1/2 inch in diameter and when pulling just one strand out it is so fine you can barely see it. He says he uses these for signal haylards. Interesting book .

I find the finger dexterity to be more of a problem than the eyesight. I keep increasing the diopter on the reading/closeup glasses I use on the modeling bench.  To handle the dexterity, I believe in the use it or loose it advice, so am forcing myself to work on 1:144 and 1:72 more.  

But on the white/clear monofilament, I am getting stymied at 3 mil.  I can work on other colors, but the white just blends into the background!

Your a better man than I. Eyesight and finger dexterity would  not allow me to work with that sort of thing.growing old sucks

I will have to measure it when I get it. I think I measured the 8/0as .002. I will check when I get home. I am guessing the 14/0 will be around .001.

I could never figure out those thread sizes.  How big is that in fraction of an inch?

My latest thread I bought was a monofilament fly tying thread that is five mil.  I bought both black and white. I find the white is a real bear to use because I literally cannot see it when it is against a light colored background. I have to keep a piece of black cardboard around to hold it behind the area I am working, but that leaves one less hand for the rigging :-(

BTW, this is while I am wearing 2.0 diopter magnifying glasses.
