Dragon’s 1/72 scale Jagdpanzer L/70

Jason Sloboda
Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada

Jason calls this scene featuring Dragon’s 1/72 scale Jagdpanzer L/70 “Spring Breakthrough, Hungary 1945.” He used tin for the schürzen side armor, modified the loader with a head from a CMK submariner, sculpted tile grout for groundwork, and covered it with snow mixed from Pledge Future floor polish, talcum powder, Tamiya white acrylic and clear blue paint. “The final snow was a blizzard of talcum powder,” Jason says. “Be sure to do this step outside!”

Hay Jason, Sweet build, a good setting and with your realistic looking photo you definitely made it appear true to life. What did you use for the back-drop? It looks great.

Thanks Geosammy! The back drop is a field east of my previous home in western Alberta Canada. If memory serves well the picture was taken shortly after dawn in -20 C weather. I had just returned from there to see the picture made reader's gallery. Unfortunately the diorama is no longer yet lives on.

Extraordinary realism, especially with the snow, which is all the time difficult to have it appear authentic. Amour type models appear more interesting in a diorama setting. Lastly, the integrity of foreground & background certainly is a masterwork!

I'll second that about it looking -- and feeling -- cold. A realistic vehicle in a well-done setting. Your photo really captures the feel of winter war!

This is a very impressive diorama. Well done. By the way I'm from Western Alberta. Have you ever been to Hinton?

Tanks everyone for your interest. Yes rookie 104 I was at the RMMC 2009 Western Canadian Regional model contest in Hinton AB. Excellent venue at the aircraft museum. The model I entered is on the new page of 'Reader's Gallery'(Marder II) Both can be seen in FSM's 'Great Scale Modeling' 2008 & 2010.
