John built Hasegawa’s 1/32 scale F-104J Starfighter. “I like its sleek lines and stubby wings,” he says. He wanted to add a True Details cockpit, but the aftermarket tub wouldn’t fit so he used the seat only. Filing and putty replicated weighted tires. He also cut out the flaps to droop them. John used Halford’s Rover silver birch automotive paint for the fuselage, leaving the white primer to show on the upper wings and obtaining a shine with auto polish. Everything else was brush-painted with Humbrol enamels. He detailed panel lines with a wash that was a darker tone of the base coat, and highlighted them with an HB artist’s pencil. “Whilst it’s not perfect in build or finish I am happy with this large model, and it has pride of place on my shelf,” John says.
