“When a co-worker said his grandfather [Cmdr. David R. Connole] was the last skipper of SS-237 Trigger, I showed him the Revell 1/72 scale Gato I’d built before,” Max says. “He asked me to do a weathered one for his family. Trigger was lost with all hands in 1945, so I was only too happy to do it.” Max hoisted the kit’s American flags, made decals for the banner, logo, and plaque, and used dry transfers for the numbers. He sprayed the hull with Krylon and Tamiya flat black and light ghost gray enamels, then weathered with dark rust powdered pastels. He finished with Krylon flat clear on the hull and Testors Dullcote on the fairwater.
