One of British Maj. Gen. Percy Hobart’s AVRE (Armored Vehicle, Royal Engineers) designs (also known as “Hobart’s Funnies”) was a modification of the Churchill tank to unroll a mat for other tanks to cross wet, soft ground. Russ scratchbuilt deep wading gear and the “carpet layer” for Tamiya’s 1/35 scale kit. The groundwork is decorative sand.
