Making his first attempt at modeling water for a submarine, Steve started small with Hobby Boss’ 1/700 scale Chinese 039A (NATO reporting name Song-class) submarine that he airbrushed with Vallejo acrylics. He used a thin piece of Styrofoam for the water and painted it with craft acrylics that he bought along with a wood base at a craft store. “Flat and foamy waters were made with Liquitex medium and heavy acrylic gel, respectively, then coated with (Pledge) Future floor polish,” he says.
