Mark Dodson, Muskogee, Oklahoma

“Dad had a special truck made to pull our 8' x 40' trailer home in the late 1950s and early ’60s,” Mark says. “I have never seen another like it. He was a truck driver for the pipeline and we moved around quite a bit. I did this from memory, since I couldn’t find any pictures of it. I used an AMT 1/25 scale 1950 Chevrolet 3100 pickup (the one with the Texaco service truck on the box). I shortened the frame about ½" and used parts like the mirrors, rear bumper section, and mudflaps from an Italeri truck accessories kit. The floor shift, trailer hitch, and brace are scratchbuilt from sprue. The dual wheels have extra parts from an AMT 1964 GTO. The back section is scratchbuilt from wood (it really should have been a little thinner). The back fender wells are heavy cardboard, which was easy to form around the tires. Hinges on the toolbox lid (which actually lifts) came from a Hobby Boss 1/48 scale tank. Modeling is even more fun when you try to re-create something that brings back a lot of memorable times.”
