Tamiya 1/48 scale Beaufighter - April 2014

Russell Morton, Houston, Texas

A Texan at present, Russell hails from Aberdeenshire in Scotland, “which is the reason for my interest in the Banff Strike Wing flying from Aberdeenshire bases later in World War II,” he says. The Beaufighter is from the Canadian 404 Squadron based at nearby Dallachy. Tamiya’s 1/48 scale kit got a white-metal undercarriage, photoetched-metal seat belts, and EZ-Line radio antennas from Russell. To make the base, he sprayed a wood sheet flat black, placed a gridwork of twine over it, then sprayed it with “stone effect” paint. Then he removed the twine, leaving a grid pattern. Model railroad grass surrounds the pavement.
