Dragon’s 1/35 scale Hornisse 8.8cm self-propelled antitank gun (SdKfz 164, later called Nashorn) packs an extra punch with scratchbuilt ammunition bins, MP40 holders, periscope frames, arm for the scissors periscope, rolled-up tarpaulin, and a wood storage box on the right track guard. Kevin also added parts from other kits, such as spare road wheels and mounts, shells, a machine gun, ammo boxes and canisters from Verlinden, and towing hooks. Testors Model Master dunkelgelb, Polly Scale rotbraun, and Polly S olivgrun provided the German three-color camouflage; Kevin says, “All colors were mixed with approximately 30 percent flat white to achieve a dull, washed-out look.” He applied paint chips using Model Master schokoladenbraun and rust on the point of a hobby knife. The camouflage netting is cheesecloth painted with raw sienna.
