Taking a challenging path to a natural-metal finish, John covered Hasegawa’s 1/48 scale F-104C Starfighter with three different types of Bare-Metal Foil — matte aluminum, chrome, and ultra bright chrome — and developed a technique to add the look of grain to the metal. After applying the foil, he burnishes with a paper blending stick and lightly rubs the surfaces with 0000 steel wool. Varying the direction of the grain adds realism.
