Kenneth Guerrero

Las Vegas, Nevada

This 1/48 scale Hasegawa A-7D depicts a jet of the 4450th Tactical Group at Nellis Air Force Base, operating out of Tonopah Airport in the early 1980s. Kenneth says, “It was commissioned by a pilot who was assigned to the squadron in the early days of the F-117 stealth program. The A-7 was chosen as the transition and initial training aircraft, as its performance, cockpit layout, and single-pilot workload most closely resembled what they would find when flying the F-117.” An Aires resin detail set and Eduard colored photo-etch keep the cockpit busy while a Rhino Modelworks resin intake and Scale Aircraft Conversions white-metal landing gear replace kit parts. Kenneth loaded extra 500-pound bombs from a Hasegawa weapons set and applied Superscale decals in lieu of the kit’s markings. Camouflage was airbrushed free-hand with Testors Model Master FS36118 gunship gray and FS34079 dark green.
