Mike Hamm

Canyon Lake, Texas

ICM’s 1/35 scale T-34/76 (Model 1943) served Mike as a test bed for paint-chipping effects he saw in FineScale Modeler. He writes: “This was my first attempt at chipping. I airbrushed Tamiya flat black (XF-1) as a primer coat, olive green (XF-58) for the base color, and then I sprayed non-aerosol hairspray through my airbrush (for the release layer). Flat white (XF-2) went over the hairspray for the winter coat. After I chipped away to the desired look, I sprayed the model with Pledge FloorCare Multi-Surface Finish, applied the decals, and used Testors CreateFX acrylic washes to dirty up the vehicle. Before the decals were completely set, I used a toothpick to chip them so they looked weathered like the rest of the tank. A coat of Testors Model Master flat clear acrylic dulled the white.”
