How did Steve knock out Tamiya’s 1/12 scale Honda CB750F in 14 hours? Aggressive modeling! He used an Alec scraper on mold seams and stripped chrome-plated parts with caustic soda (aka sodium hydroxide, or lye). “Please beware of the vapors caustic soda gives off,” he cautions. “Always put a lid or cover over the container.” He finished with Tamiya light blue and dark blue acrylics along with AK Interactive Xtreme metal. For an effective picture of the model, Steve says, “Photographing your model in natural light will give it a more realistic look, and it’s easier to capture the metallic without getting the glare you would with a flash.”
