About Bearsgang
Long time scale modeler from the Great White North (Ontario). Build subjects have been almost one of most categories over the last few decades. Lately have focused more on 1:24 scale cars and 1:35 armor with the occasional 1:48 aircraft (Cdn RCAF subjects only). My inspiration over the years has come from FSM, Shep Paine, Francois Verlinden and your sister publication Scale Auto (formerly SAE). My early years were spent building many of the old Aurora armor kits (the JSIII being my favorite). Other manufacturers names from the past that I built were "SNAP" miltary items as well as "Adams" and "the Lindberg line" kits. I've lost count of how many Revell, AMT, Tamiya and Monogram kits that I have built over the years. One thing I've learned over the years is in this hobby it's "all good" as I appreciate the workmanship that goes into a scale model be it a tank, ship, aircraft, automotive subject and even a model railroad layout. Using a technique from one area of the hobby and introducing it to another is what keeps the model building fresh. Take a look at some of the entries in model car contests today compared to what was being displayed 15 or 20 years ago. There are many entries that are now being "weathered" as an accepted finish and that technique came over from the military modelers. At the other end of the spectrum I have been approached by long time military modelers that "stay away" from doing a favorite automotive subject because they are intimidated by a nice high gloss finish. As the old saying goes just ask for advice then practice, practice, practice. Thanks for letting this old guy sound off.Cheers. Glen (aka Bearsgang).
