Italieri SM.79 Finnito (Ish)
Posted by Luftwoller on Saturday, November 15, 2008 9:05 AM

Hi all, i had alternative plans for my next model, namely a Heinkell 115 but i appear to have lost 2 of the float struts. This was next on my pile so onwards and upwards.

Ive fancied doing one of these for a while. And with recent talk of a Italian GB that didnt happen. I was suitably stirred.

Heres all my goodies for the build. The resin engines look amazing and im sure with a lick of paint theyll look even better.

Anyhoo, the inside of the fuz looked fairly boring but with the PE from Eduard it really made a difference and busied th place up.

Im currently at home on a 4 hr spread shift and the interior componants have had a coat of pale green. Hopefully tonight ill be able to startt the detailing of the inside.

Stay tuned.

Thx all, those barrels are, I think, the tubes that held the bombs. They were dropped vertically like the Heinkell 111. I like the idea of hot oil though LOL

As for the colour scheme, ive decided on the scheme depicted on the box art. Mainly because i need a challenge. Either that or im stupid.

I was at the Butch O'Hare show today in Downers Grove, Illinois and there was a 1/72 SM 79 there.  Wow.  It was beautiful.  Several judges were eyeing it for a best paint job award as I was closely examining the awesome work.  For a multi engine aircraft I was surprised how small it looked in 1/72.  Good luck on yours.

Looking good, Wolly- and that's the scheme to do.  Cool [8D]  I have the Trumpeter 1/48, and it's... horrible!!  The Eduard sets don't have those bomb-barrels.  Ah, well....

Hi all, thought id post another quick update.I am NOT BiG E, Im on the Aromor Satan's PC. The fuz is just about done with just the oversized weoponery to add to the gondola.

I know some people wont use PE and prefer to scratchbuild stuff but check out the top cover, that im going to show open BTW, you couldnt beat that scratching, well you might be able too.

Next up was the minute barrel jackets. 1stly i heated them up till they turn blue. To make them maleable,

Next up is to find a suitable sized drill bit to wrap the part around. It was at this point i was still thinking, its never going to happen,

and there you have it. 2 more to go.

More soon peeps.

Hey Guy,

Lookin good!  The possible Italian GB won't start until 2009, so you have plenty of time to wrap this up...Big Smile [:D]  What scheme do you plan on using?

Cheers,
Alex

Great work!  Know what would go well with this aircraft?  A late-war '109!

Believe it or not...there's even a Gb for them getting ready to start!

Was I subtle enough? Whistling [:-^]

Count me in for both of them. The Italian GB and the Late war 109. How late war 109's are we looking at? If someone could send me a link to both the prospective GB's id appreciate it.

As for the colour scheme, its now going to be similar to the Box art but not with the grey on the leading edge. Apparantly this was for the torpedo bombers to help disguise them to thier prospective targets and blend them into the sea. As this is a 'Hot oil' bomber it wont have it. Itll be the 3 tone over grey.

Im still here plugging away. Just wanted to show where im at, so to speak. The main body of the plane is together now. The top hatch is just temporary and will be replaced, as well as the access door, with PE wonders.

My next mission is to sort the engines out. My problem is this, the Pavla resin engines are very nice but have a bit of flash on them and they also look a bit fiddly to attach, being as they have no mounting points. The Italieri engines are ok and im sure with the PE wiring and ignition wires, they may come up ok. Ooh decisions, decisions.

Any hoo, heres a couple of pics of my possible colour schemes,

im fancying the last of second pics. The one with the yellow cowls. What do you all reckon.

Heres a nice period pic of a few flying.

Seriously, your work gets better with every kit.  That office is one of the finest I have ever laid eyes on.  How the heck do you do such amazing work in such short amounts of time?  Oh, I forgot... elves.

By the Mottle, do you mean the yellow cowled beastie? Or do you mean the green and brown splotches over the yellow. Like on the box art.

The elves need to know.

Like in the box art pic? I cant do that one because ive built the bomber version and the grey nose was for torpedo bombing. Ooh the decisions. Is the yellow cowled one yours. It looks fantastic. But just means i cant do that one now because youve already done it. Oh Woe is me.

Im off for a couple of days now. I expect loads of usefull help for when i get back LOL.

Guy that is one of the one's I pulled off the too be fixed pile. I have so many old kits that have not survived the Army years and the 19 moves my life endured in those 21 years. Dead [xx(] I hate moving!  Hopefully that is all behind me now.

That kit is the old Smer kit. 1/48 scale. Very crude and old mold but with very nice lines none the less.  I have the Trumpeter kit to build yet somewhere?  Don't let that old relic affect your decision! LOL

Hi all, shes finished ish, ish because i need to add the bracing wires to the tail and find one of the clams that goes on the gondola. I needed to clear the bench ready for the weekend madness GB. I know its not the weekend but hey. Heres the pics. I hope you like it.

I wasnt too sure about the spinners but i have seen one with red spinners so went with that. It adds a bit of colour to the mix. I hope you like it.
