Finally finished: my Glencoe 1/72 Martin MB-2!

Hi all,

After more than a year of work, and after trying a number of new things (not the least of which is rigging a biplane), I've finished my Martin MB-2 that I started for the medium and heavy bomber group build (click the image for a larger version):

Actually, it's more than a year -- almost two. But my wife and I had a baby in that time. For a while, my other hobby was building a nursery for the little guy. That deadline couldn't be moved!

Very nice work on the old bomber. Do you still have your sanity after all of that rigging wire? A new baby also adds to the stress level. Congratulations on both "projects".

That rigging looks "cynical" & would drive me
totally bonkers!! Your base really sets it off too. Looks appropriate for that era.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

The rigging was tedious, but strangely enjoyable. Other aspects of the kit were far from enjoyable. It was a real pain in a lot of ways.

Still, I'm happy with how it turned out.

I'd love to see Roden or Eduard, or even Hasegawa, tackle this plane in a true 1/72 scale, with detail comparable to the 1/72 Roden Bristol F2b Fighter (click on the link to see what I mean).

I doubt that anyone will do that, though because between-the-wars aircraft aren't very popular. So if you want an MB-2, then the Glencoe kit is the only way to go.

A great job man ! Both the kit and the base turned out great. It's been a pleasure getting to see it come together in the Bomber GB. All the sanding paid off - the wings look spectacular - and all that rigging looks really fine.

Great looking build there Drew, the rigging looks good. Wives and kids to bite into the modelling time but press on! (Fortunately my wife encourages me to keep on in the hobby - it keeps me out of trouble, and my little ones are in bed by 7pm).

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

My wife is very supportive of this hobby, so I'm lucky there. I wish I could get my little one in bed by 7 pm, but at five months, he's still on a somewhat random schedule. He's usually asleep by 9, but not every night. Most nights he sleeps through the night, but not every night.

Oh well, it beats the way things were a few months ago when he was up every 4-5 hours. Black Eye [B)]
