Weren't these done by Heller in 1/400(?) scale? Gneisenau Admiral Scheer Lutzow Graff Spee Prince Eugen |

Yes, Heller did produce those ships in 1/400. I had, at one time, all of them. They were for the most part very crude compared to modern offerings. It should be noted that those kits go back to the '60s and '70s and a lot has changed in all that time. I have seen some truly gorgeous builds of those Heller kits quite recently on Modelwarships.com for one.
The UPS guy just dropped off my new Trumpeter Prinz Eugen this afternoon and I have only just had time to inventory the parts to make sure they are all present. This kit includes some so-so photo etch (railings, platforms, ladders and funnel grill and some other bits) but the moldings of the plastic parts appear to be quite sharp with lots of detail. The decking includes plank ends and a mix of other types of deck coverings that appear to be well done. The kit also includes an S-100 Class boat as a bonus. Can't tell you how well the bottom hull will fit 'cause I don't care as I throw away the bottoms and only build waterline (a full hull model with a glowering red hull just reminds me too much of a baboon's butt, besides, you will almost never see a ship any other way but from the waterline up anyway). First impression of the box contents is very, very favorable, as always, your mileage may vary. WS
