Tiger I w/ Interior Update (I finally got the "right" colors)

Looking very goodkeep it up.

I am very cautious about taking positions on interior color for Tiger tanks, restored museum relics are not always represent of the original schemes. That being said, I went with the Bovington information and references, because I believe it was a restoration effort that focused on accuracy.

Since you have painstakingly worried about the right shade of eifelbein, you might want to consider that everything below the sponson line in the fighting compartment should be panzer gray?

You can see what I mean here, from the radio operator position, final drives and associated running gear are gray. When you look at photos of maintenance personnel removing and replacing these components, they are clearly not the eifelbein color.

Now, don't take me wrong, I don't want to start a debate and have this thread degenerate into controversy. It is clear that no one is really sure. It's your kit, hundreds of these Academy Tigers have  been done before, and every one of them has a different interior color scheme. There are museum pieces with the entire interior painted off white, so I guess "what ever floats your boat" is the way to go.

I know how you feel, I researched many tigers, including that, and the same you did. but other pics convinced me that that pic you have is "incorrect" (no offense) and the real color is not panzer gray (striclty exterior), but a gray-green color (primer, so to speak). Thanks though!

 

just to throw in my 2 cents,i think both you guys are both half correct-- i think the gray should come up higher to the sponson line like crockett  said, however i think cowboy may be more correct on the color -- not panzer gray, but what i would call an industrial 'machine gray' that was probably not dull either--more semi gloss looking--the eifelbien looks right on to me!-- anyway, none of us will ever know for sure-- the build looks top notch so far--treadwell

Yes, interesting. Kind of like trying to determine the call number of the Wittmann Tiger @ Villers Bocage, eh?

Now that I look at it, the demarcation should come up about another 3/8 inch.

It looks good to me , I used Primer red for the lowers on my panther and T 2 but who knows , yet another arguement that could go on foreever .

I like the grey myself .

Interior work adds a whole new perspective to tank models  doesn't it ?

I know what you mean about adding another dimension to armor models.

It makes all the others seem "empty and hollow."

The red primer was possible later in the war, but let's not go in depth with this.
