Sd.Kfz.222 'Hey, Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert' Diorama, Complete
Posted by FingersEddie on Monday, November 20, 2006 4:59 AM

I've now finished this dio'! I did a little bit of research on the lizard for it's mottled colours, and the fuel drum came from Mig Productions Afrika Base.

It's jus' a simple scene really, that's all I wanted jus' to show off the figures and the vehicle!

WOW!  That's pretty much the most gorgeous and realistic DAK stuff I've ver seen.... stunning work.  The lizard turned out great as well.... pretty much everything in that dio is of an incredible standard.

I think you've captured the moment perfectly Fingers, having the lizard on the drum keeps things simple from the perspective of the standing crewman as opposed to having him clumped together with the other two. All around very nice work. Thumbs Up [tup]

Cheers guys, I'm glad you like it!

Matthew, I used Vallejo's Stone Effects - Coarse Pumice and Sandy Paste. I submitted a pic' of these tubs in my DAK WIP.

Brilliant work. A very simple, yet superb dio. You can be proud of this one.

Absolutely amazing, cant say much that hasnt already been said.  My specific favortite parts are the chipping/wear on the vehicle, obviously the figures which are truthfully the best I have ever seen, and last the cover to the spare tire coaver looks exactly like fabric, wich like most of the best paint jobs really gives an illusion of the texture of the real thing.  How did you do the paint chipping/wear on the vehicle anyways? I would love to try i out.  Again, incredible work!

By the way, adding water would have been one of those touches like the lizard that really made the scene look like a snapshot in time, and not a bunch of guys posing for a camera on top of their shining new tank.

Fingers Eddie;

You could still add this. If you have never made a "pouring" before it is quite simple. You can either use a piece of clear sprue bent and sculpted to look the part or using Tube Glue. A spot of tube glue placed upside down and teased with a toothpick or similar will produce a decent "pour" as well.

Just an additional thought or another bit for the tip to use later

Cheers;

Greg, thanks for this advice! I'm gonna' apply this effect, 'cos it's another important enhancement. Cheers!

Fantastic... The car is awesome but the display is a real eye catcher. The sand is so nicely done... Excellent...
