Tamiya 1/48 DeHavilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI Update 13/12/09
Posted by bodie37 on Thursday, September 17, 2009 10:44 AM

Hi all,

Just want to touch base with you all on my next build. The Mosquito is by far my favorite aircraft of all time for many reasons. The look of it, the engineering of it and the pure performance it gave to the pilots and navigators and most of it being made out of wood.

I have read alot of reviews on this model and all of them have given it top marks. So at last I'm going to have a bash at it and so far it has been a dream build. I have been building alot of Revell models lately and always at some point I've had some fitting issuses and have waisted time in going over and over problems that I've occured but with this Tamiya I've had no problems.

The kit has loads of detail to it and the only minor issue is that the instrument panel has no dials on it. Just curcles but the decal that has been provided should be a decent sub to it. A bit of Micro sol/set will sort it out.

So, to the kit.

So far I've put together the wings and painted the undercarrage bays which I think have come out ok. I did add some more detailed wiring in them but are hard to see on the photograph. I made an oil wash for the bay and that too I think has brought some more of the detail out. I'll try and get a better shot of it later.

I've also been able to complete the undercarrage assembly which came together really well. I just have to put a small oil wash on it and it should be complete.

I'm hoping to get some more done this weekend and if I can I will post some pictures of it. Guys your comments and suggestions are all very welcome and if you have any pointers for me then I will surely take them on board and I will try my hardest to put the decals on the right way around this time. [*^_^*]

Take care

Looking good so far.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as this kit is next on my list to build.  I opened the box a few weeks ago and it looks like it'll make for a good OOB build.

Ah the termites dream. Almost all of Tamiya kits will give you an enjoyable trouble free build. Looks like you have made a good start. If the decals give you problems ask before you have a go at them as there are several different methods to achive nice looking decals. Just ask.

Nice work so far.  I've built the kit three times & there are no major pitfalls, typical Tamiya quality.  If you choose to model the bay doors closed, getting them to fit properly is a bit tricky but doable.  Just work slowly & dry fit before you glue.

Great looking pit. Very nicely detailed. Those wing spars look plenty substantial.

I reckon, by the time you've finished, you'll be ready to tackle the new Airfix 1/24th Mosquito

Those Tamiya kits are definitely worth the premium.

What I would give to get my grubby hands on that 1/24. I've seen a video of the workings of it on youtube and it looks fantastic. Just hope the price doesn't stop me!!!!!

Great looking build.  I have the NF.XIII that is currently waiting on paint.  The kit is absolutly wonderful.  Shake and bake is the correct term.

Hi all me again just giving you all an update on my work so far on my Mosquito.

I've managed to finish off the office and I really pleased with it. I was thinking of adding some more wiring but I thought better of it and I think it would of been too much. I'm really impressed with this model. Thus far no problems.

I've also been able to hammer some more work out this weekend. I had a spare 12 hours on my hands so I took opp when the going was good. I've put the main assembley together and attached the wings. Also I managed to get alot of the cam done but these pictures are a little dark so the darker grey looks even darker. I put a gloss coat over it to prep for the decals. Fingers crossed I should have this silvering over and done with. I'll be mad as hell if it shows through. Anyhow this is what I've done.

Pointers and comments are all very welcome Smile

Take care all

Hi all,

Hope all is well with everyone. I've managed to get a few things done around the Mosquito this weekend and I think I should fininsh it before Cristmas (fingers crossed) I haven't been able to get to it since I started the Red Arrow which I posted a couple of weeks back and what a joy it still is to build. I don't think I need to harp on about the model it really does speak for itself. Anyone who wants to build will have as much joy as I've had.

Anyway, since last time I've put the decals on and airbrushed a matt finish to it. I have started to beat it up a little but I will save that for a later post. Hopefully when its done. I've attached the bomb bay doors etc.

As always comments and pointers are always welcome

Cheers for now, take care
