Soviet Union Group Build 2009-2010 - Closing SOON
Posted by M1 A1 A2 Tanker on Monday, October 5, 2009 9:43 PM

Although, I am currently involved in 2 other GB's I really wanted to do one myself. And since this is October and I really like Soviet Union subjects, I propose a Soviet Union Group Build. The suggested particulars are below. (other suggestions are highly welcome.)

Kits - Any scale or subject. They must have Soviet markings, not Warsaw pact, and must be of a subject used between Oct 1917 and December 1991. Crossovers and partial builds are ok.

Start Date - Now (if enough interest) through June 30, 2010. (June is the month final resistance of the Bolshevik's fell in 1923.) No cut off date to join at this time.

GB Badge can be added once subject is completed and pic's posted. WIP pic's highly encouraged.

Proposed GB badges are below.  You must complete 2 kits to get the 2 star version. (Will provide a smaller version once finalized.)

Ok, this one is looking good.

I'm down! Soviet stuff is my favorite. Not sure what I'll do but I'd like to be involved and you've given plenty of time to pick a subject...so, yeah, count me in.

Don't put me on the list yet, but providing i get my other GB's cleared, i will be up for this. It will be a 1/72nd Aircraft, most likely a MiG of one type or another.

Sorry

        Traveller

One of the requirements for the build is Soviet markings. But remember any subject or scale and no closing date (for now).

See Ya

No worries!!! Of course I did not read the thread properly, and assumed that it would be ok, D'OH!! I have a couple of projects to do first, and then I will see. I am notorious for not finishing things in time, and give up easy when things go wrong. Also, as the weather will be warming up soon, swimming season begins, and I will be hitting the pool again!

Ok, this is looking good so have updated the first post with a participants list. Note to Traveller and Bish I left you two out of the list since Bish requested it and Traveller seems unsure if he wants to join. Remember guys it is open ended so you can join anytime you feel like.

Also, Oddmanrush, stikpusher and satch_ip please let me know what subjects you'll be doing when your ready and I'll update the list. But no big hurry, just a reminder.

Finally, what do guys think about the GB badge?

Thanks

Scott

I should be ok. I have two armour GB's and two aircraft in line first. But the last of these ends the start of may, so worse case i have two months. But i never know if i might get deployed in the mean mean which would deffo mean me being out, and i have had a few GB's i have had to drop out of because of work.

I have the Hasagawa Hind E kit that's on the list for building next year and would fit in perfect for this GB time wish. Does anyone know when this entered service and if it would be eligible. I had planned on a Dio with two BMP 2', which i think are ok, just not sure about the Hind.

Love the badge.

Love the badge.

According to my research the Hind E was first seen by the West in the early 1980's. Seems to have seen a lot of service in the Soviet-Afgan war. So your good.

Should I put you on the list for this one?

That sounds good, don't put me on the list, but as soon as i know i can start it in time i will drop a line. I would rather do that than have to back out. But i will keep an eye on what others are doing in the mean time.

I was in a MILAN Anti Tank plattoon for 4 years from 95. One of the main things we practiced was AFV recigition, and the 2S6 was always one of my favorites and one i always remember. Will be looking forward to seeing this built.

Would Aeroflot markings count?  They do use a winged sickle and hammer in their livery + cccp.  If so Ill jump on board.

I am doing some cold war era nuke subs for a GB somewhere else, could build an Alfa class 1:700 soviet sub, except subs dont have external 'soviet" markings :(

Would that work? The kit is 1:700 ARII  Red Star alfa class sub.

 Hey

Your in. I have added you to the Main post list. Just remember MUST be a Soviet era and preferably a Soviet built aircraft. So no Airbus A320's please. Big Smile [:D]

Thanks

I must be crazy, given my GB load, but I have heaps of Soviet stuff in my stash. I have no idea what it'll be at this point but I'll tentatively sign up. Eight months is a long time!

Hi Scott,

I have four or five (six...) GBs in progress and will be launching my own (Achtraden) on the GB forum in about a week, what can I say, I'm a styrene junkie!

My inclination at the moment is toward ICM's MiG-3 or Tamiya's T-72, both of which came in recently, but I have plenty else on standby, Trumpeter's KVs, Academy's MiG-21 and MiG-29. I could even be a real glutton for punishment and tackle Esci's BMP-1. I have Zvezda's BMD airborn armor, and have been looking for an excuse to build that Tamiya Su-122 as the first step on a winter diorama... And lots more MiGs and Sukhois. Even the Orlyonok!

Let's see what the next eight months turns up, for the moment put me down for the MiG-3.

Cheers, and thanks,

Mike/TB379
