AOSHIMA'S 1-350 HIJMS TAKAO WITH P/E
Posted by surfsup on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 5:35 AM

Ok this is going to be my next Project and what fun it should be. First of all here is the Kit for the Project.....

Here are the Kit Parts in the Box.......

I will be using the Rwo P/E Sets for this Kit from Gold Medal Models. I will be replacing the Turrets with more detailed Resin Ones. All the Barrels will be replaced with machined Brass Barrels also......

And finally this is the Reference Material I will be using.......

Now the fun begins.......Cheers Mark

OK the Hull is now together. The internal braces work well giving the Hull rigidty but the fit was woeful. Lots of filling and sanding to come.......Cheers Mark

The Main Deck is now on and the Fit is just as bad as the Hull. The Deck comes in Two Parts with an Insert Part for each Half. This is probably done to take into account the differences between the SisterShips that Aoshima have or are going to Kit.. What this means is more seams to fill and sand. Ho Hum....They call this a Hobby....?????.....Cheers Mark

Thanks Tiger. The Hull Seam has now been fixed and the Main Deck is now attached. Most of the Deck Seams have now been fixed except fo the Bow Area. Some of the Deck Retaining Strips were lost in the Process but will be replaced with P/E Brass one from one of the GMM Sets. I have placed the Hull next to my HMS Hood for a Size comparison. More to come soon.....Cheers Mark

Your doing a real nice job with this, for the price I thought this could have been a better kit,the instructions were tough, and I know miss had no flag decals,or any decals for the float planes.

I really like the Takao class ships.  This kit is on my shelf waiting for me to finish other projects.  Therefore, I, too, will be watching your build with great interest!

I am considering getting the Lionroar Takao set for detailing mine.
