Spotted these in my Faceook feed this morning. I'm not sure if you guys can see them, if not I'll save them and host them myself.

I hope this one is more accurate than their previous Russian tanks. I'm really excited for this one, I knew my modern tank phase happened at the right time lol.

That's a tough one, they have a bad reputation for being inaccurate messes that one must take care when building. Lately however their kits have become much better in terms of fit, finish and general accuracy. I'm hopping this T-90 will be a good kit. I'm also hoping that this one will be a completely new mold that doesn't borrow from their T-72 line. So in short, when Zvezda releases a good, well thought out kit I would compare them to Italeri of Academy.

Zvezda is on par with Italeri kits, because most of Zvezda's line are reboxed Italeri kits. Their early original kits are poor but qualtiy increased towards the beginning of the 2000s. They often rebox older Dragon modern Soviet armor kits, sometimes replacing the original Dragon indy links with silver stiff vinyl tracks that are much like Italeri vinyl tracks.

Zvezda did do some fairly nice kits like the JS-2 Stalin, T-26 and T-34/85 as well as a Soviet WW2 towed arty piece before they became a reboxing company. Generally speaking, if you see a Zvezda kit that is the same of similar to a subject another company has released, assume it is a rebox.

They do a couple pretty nice modern Russian armor kits like the BMD/BRD kits.

Zvezda's T-72 and T-80s are reboxes of the original DML/Dragon kits from the late 1980/early 1990s. I have built them all. Overall not bad kits, but now that the Iron Curtain is long gone, they do show their age. That being said, looking at the sprue shots, this upcoming T-90 looks to be an all "new tooling/new molding" kit. While some individual parts such as the stowage boxes and road wheels appear to be the same as or quite similar to those from the older kits, seeing how the T-90 evolved from the T-72 this is not suprising. Overall the new tank kit looks very nice and I think it will make a great addition to any collection of modern armor.

Dragon never did a T-90, so how could it be a rebox? Agreed that the T-72 is a rebox.

This kit will be the first plastic T-90. I've been doing some reading elsewhere on the net and consensus seems to be that this kit is all new, all Zvezda molds that borrow nothing from previous T-72 kits.

Oops, that was a typo on my part... that was supposed to say T-80....Embarrassed My sucky typing.  Now corrected. This kit looks to be 99% all new tooling with perhaps the parts I mentioned being lifted from the older T-72 kits, but I doubt that. The just look the same because of the family remeblance.

Youre kiing me G-man!Wink

Once upon a time I actually was a decent typist with proper skills. But years of typing right handed on a MDT in the patrol car while driving destroyed that muscle memory. Hence my current numerous typos in every post and proud claim for H&I or "Hellen Keller" typing... or maybe Ray Charles/Stevie Wonder school because I am often smiling as I type...Cool

I see Carlos is another proud graduate of the Helen Keller school of typing.

I majored in the "Columbus Method" of typing, find a key and land on it.

Discussion on Missing Links about the T-90 sprue shots and comments by Zvezda contacts say this is an all new tooled kit.

Haha this is great, just saw that Meng Model has released a CAD drawing of their own T-90 hull. Now we're going to have 2 T-90's on the market in the near future. I wonder who else will join the fun?

Those shots look pretty good. Still, not regretting the fact that I spent good moolah on the Miniarm T-90 conversion sets.

Just picked up my sample from Kempe's.
Walking down the instructions atm and will post some sprueshoots shortly.
Interesting solution to the open guide horn problem where the link and length type tracks have a separat guide horn piece that is added in the center, not one by one but in lenghty bits :)
Looks as if 2011 will end and 2012 will start in Ural.

Very Best Regards
Johan

I got mine in the mail last week and I have to say it looks amazing! I've only had time to put the lower hull together and it fit awesome. I'm very happy with the effort that Zvezda has put into this kit and I hope they keep it up. Maybe we can get a new T-80 an T-72 next??
