Natural Bare Metal Finish is only a drop in a large bucket in modeling .Try to open up all 4 engines on a 1/72 scale Revell Airbus a400m like I am doing .

Silver
Natural metal Finish system completed from home made water slide decals.A very fast and safe method by using Testors Metalizers and clear decal film sheets.

Silver, I've never heard of this method before.  It sounds interesting!!!  Are there pictures out there which show examples of this metalizer/decal combination?

Thanks,

Eric

I will try to send some pictures which will show the finish product on an model and the sheets that I created..The judges on one of the contest thought they were painted on.Thats how realistic the decals were.Just purchase clear decal film and spray light coats of any Testors Metalizer to the decal film. After the 1 hr drying time buff it then spray it w/testors gloss and dry overnight.Use frisked paper to trace the outline of the panels of the aircraft .Then transfer the patterns to your made decal sheet to cut out .It takes practice-

At that rate you can just use foil and have it be actual metal, just saying.

Interesting idea but foil sounds easier.

Foil actually has a grainy look ..Just like if you had a cat fight on top of the surface. Also foil reflects everything and at the wrong time. Its been said that nothing matches up to foil.Well, at contest I use foil for target practice.Foil is ok for the car modelers. If you choose foil it is better to use it on leading edges of wings and some assorted panels.I went for many years w/foil and had many things go 80% wrong.Maybe I screwed up.But ; try it and see.

Some people have amazing, jaw-dropping results from using foil.  I've tried it several times but I've never been happy with the results I've gotten.  For that, I mostly blame myself.  I'm sure it's just due to my lack of experience in working with foil.  That's why I'm curious to see how the decal method works and looks.

Silver, thank you for explaining the method.  It definitely raised my eyebrows and I might have to give that a try.  Again, I'd love to see some pictures if at all possible.

Thanks again!

Eric

very easy to post here. Import your picture to lets say photobucket, copy and paste the URL here. You don't have to be a subscriber to get your pictures in the reader's gallery it's a hit and miss with FSM.

Silver this has been a most interesting and informative post.

You have some incites in the world of NMF that are very interesting.Thank you for sharing you hard earned knowledge.

With your skills, posting pictures here will not be a big hurdle.

Any of the major photo hosting sites (  photobucket ,imageshack  ,flicker to suggest only a few)  are fairly easy to join , cost is free, and to store pictures on. Then you can then use their url address for posting to this site.

I have a photo of an Airfix /48 Lightning that I sent To fine Scale Modeler and they posted it in the December 2005 issue. The Bac Lightning Jet.This was a while back. This lightning has 90% Metalizer decals on the SN'J spray aluminum base coat overall sealed w/gloss non-spar varnish.Spar-varnish will darken.Must be in a dust free enclosure.Presntly you can use Alclad Gloss Klear Kote ALC-310 as a final coat /sealer.I am sending a few photos today to the readers gallery of FSM.Hopefully they post at least one of the photos .

People are like that and when you meet them face to face they all of a sudden change their attitudes and when you see their models ,they look like they need lots of help.Modeling is to enjoy not to discriminate or cut down.Hope everyone just get along. The contest circuit is now changing. In the future Seattle will be the first to host a friendly Model Expo by sponsors and Media coverage will be the new thing.I am one of the sponsors . Top prize ranges over 10Kor more. Sponsorship will be more appealing than a regular model convention.Yes ,rules of basic to advance will be implemented throughout legally .Does not have to be cleared by any modeling organizations. All manufactures are invited to set up and display.International and beyond. The plan on two contest a year .Hopefully this will kick off in 2016 .

This will change plastic modeling contest and improve the friendship between modeling clubs .It just takes planning and attain sponsors who would take this hobby to the next step.A good Legal team will also help in this planning. Its just like Star Wars sipping out all other space movies.Out with the old and in with the new.Hopefully this will not stir up any bad ideas.Anyway,it will happen and hopeful it will kick off soon.

Plastic modeling goes w/the basics .The model kit ,Glue, paints ,tools ,and references.Goes the same for Natural Metal Finish. But Foil? Not.Foil belongs at the Michaels Hobby stores decorating Frames which it originally came from.Sorry Thats the way I see it .
