with great sadness
Posted by Dre on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 12:17 PM

Sorry to ruin everyone's post-holiday buzz, but my sweet little research assistant was called home last night after a short but rapid decline in health.   She was about 16 or 17 years old- possibly older- and a shelter rescue.  I buried her this morning.

This is Dynah, the best little armor assistant ever.

God speed kitty, I miss you so much.   You brought such happiness into my life.

(again, sorry for the downer but I need to work through this)

Hi Dre,

Sorry for your loss. For those who have them, pets are an integral part of our lives and full-fledged members of our families.

No need to apologize for mourning or sharing.

Tim

I know what it is like.   Lost our dog of 13 years this year, while at the Nationals in Orlando no less.  I had a cat that looked just like yours who lived to be 19.  My wife and I have two cats right now, one tabby like yours.  They are great companions and I feel for your loss.

I know what it feels like and offer my sympathy.  We've had lots of great cats over the years and a couple of dogs.  They all were special in different ways.  We have two cats now, an old buddy about 15 years old and a 3 year old that we picked up at the Humane society.  Life would be pretty dull without their antics.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

I'm so sorry for your loss. Nothing sucks worse than losing a pet.

In September I lost my dog, Oreo, to cancer. He was 10. Here's a pic of him from a few years ago. He was a great dog. They are so good at enriching our lives and making us smile:

Sorry for your loss. We have two 14 year old tabbies(senior citizens) at present and have lost 2 others over the years. Pets become part of our family and loosing them makes for a lonely house.

As a cat person and parent to a couple of feline friends, I feel your loss. It sounds like she had a long and happy life with you.

Aw, so sorry to hear this.  We have four cats in the house belonging to wife and kids.  We'd miss any or all of them.  My condolences.

DRE ;

I am sorry that your kitty is not with you now .Mine is all black(a black siamese? ) and she loves to sleep amidst my LEGO railroad stuff .If she left I would be lost .

I think cats and dogs ,oh , and certain kinds of birds enrich our lives to no amount of pleasure and comfort . I will think of your tabby whenever I see my neighbor,s cat . My thoughts are with you  Tankerbuilder

Dre,

So sorry to hear of Dynah's passing. In the last 10 yrs, we have had to deal with 3 cats and 1 dog leaving us. It is never easy. We now have three little guys that have completely stolen our hearts, again.

I'm sorry about your kitty, Dre. Any pet that's a Panzer III fan is o.k.!

Hopefully a new friend will enter your life soon!

Dre

Sorry for your loss, them pesky fur balls some how get under our skin and into one's heart. I told my grandson the only time  a family pet causes pain is the day it leaves us and breaks our heart.

I've lost my share of cats and dogs, some people after losing their "friend" are so upset they never get another. I hope you find another kitten(or cat) at a shelter and you have a new beginning, it would be a dis-service to your memory of the good times Dynah offered to you.

The following poem was written on a monument for a beloved pet, a Newfoundland dog, penned by the English Lord Byron. Though composed for a dog, the words ring true for any four legged friend, at least for me.

Near this spot

Are deposited the Remains of one

Who possessed Beauty without Vanity,

Strength without Insolence,

Courage without Ferocity,

And all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.

This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery

If inscribed over human ashes,

Is but a just tribute to the Memory of

BOATSWAIN, a DOG

Awwwww. what a cute furball.....sorry for your loss, Dre!

That's gotta leave a hole, and we've all felt it at one time or another...hope you find solace.

Gotta add too---you sure gave her a longer life than she'd ever have had as a feral or a shelter cat. Give yourself a pat on the back.... :)

Dre, My deepest condolences to you. My wife and I have household blessed with an assortment of pets. But, I have my own cat, Sparetire, who is my best friend. He has provided me with unconditional love when I was in some very dark times and when his time comes I know that it will hit me like a ton of bricks.

Again, thank you all for your words of support and encouragement.  Things are slowly returning to normal in my house as the remaining two cats adjust to the absence of their friend.

Dre buddy, just spotted this today. It was a bad spell for striped modelling assistants. We had to have "Agent 002" (aka Nutmeg) put down over the holidays, kidney failure at 8 years. The Flanker Frenzy was her last group build. I can only assume they are up there, somewhere, comparing build notes.

I'm going to go and have a good cry for the both of us now...

I think I did the same thing when I saw Dynah! Sad That's it, I'm going for a drink. It'll be coffee though, need to return to work for the afternoon.

Sorry to hear about this. I know just how you feel. We have said goodby to a few dogs over the years. The latest being our 12 year old Lab Buddy that we lost to cancer over a year ago. I swore not to have any more dogs cuz of the short time these lovable guys are with us but I broke down and got a 4 month old  Lab/Rottweiler puppy mix from a rescue place on Dec 25, so we named her Holly. They have so much love to give us.

The happiness and love that they give you far outweighs and outlasts the sorrow you feel when they are gone.

Sorry for the loss, but try to remember the good, long years you had with her.

Last year, I lost a dog I had for 12 years and I miss her everyday, but I always try to remember the good times we had, not how many time she pooped on the carpet.
