Show us your stash
Posted by Tim Kidwell on Monday, June 17, 2013 9:57 AM

No, not your mustache! Your stash -- you know, the stockpile of models filling the attic over the garage.

Some Forum members have suggested that there be an easily accessible space for the "stash" photos and discussions to accumulate. So, here it is! If you come across a thread showing off someone's stash, let us know, and we'll consider merging it here.

Thanks,

Tim

I recently sorted my stash, packing it so now I know which box has which kits. And as I did so, I thought I would take some pics of the whole lot. So I might as well kick this off.

Theres quite a few pics as I could only get a small number in for each pic.

I think I may have a 251 fetish.

And this is my collection of 1/35th figures. I don't count them in the stash, but while I was there, I thought what the hell.

Here is the start of mine,,,all 1/72

decals, weapons, trucks and tractors, invaded by the booklets that I never seem to file back in the correct bookcases

more weapons, resin storage boxes and beginning of F-4 Phantoms

F-4 Phantoms,,,,,,,one stack is missing between the Phantoms and Scooters

A-4 Skyhawks and scrap view of missing Phantom stack on the right, start of Intruder stacks on the left,,,,,,one of each molding of Skyhawk is missing from this,,,,,they are in the process of being compared by photos, over on the workbench

skipping over the Intruders and Crusaders, this is the misc Navair area

more misc. and the start of the A-7 Corsair II stacks,,,,,,,,,,the Tomcat and Hornet stacks are over on the left of these,,,,,I didn't snap a photo of those

and the case that drives Anne batty,,,,,,it faces her left side when she sits in her computer chair,,,,,and the colors distract her, lol

and that is where I stopped,,,,,,I figured by now that people would be bored by looking at models of nothing but Navair stuff,,,,,,there is a couple of shelves of "old tooling, bad boxes, not going to build, use for parts only" types of kits over in another room, but, I spend most of my model time in this corner of the living room,,,,,,or in the corner of the dining room at the workbench

There are some under the table in the foreground and I have added about 20 since the pic.

Great idea Tim!  Hey, could you post pics of the work place?  See where you sit, the infamous workbench, etc.?  Just a thought.

Eagle, that is how I want to do mine "when I grow up"

We don't have currently have a separate room for my hobby,,,,,,but, something like your set up with everything in easy reach would be cool,,,,,,,,,and then I could go back to using some of the bad smelling things again

Just in case anyone panics and thinks I am losing it, the Su-85 is going to be in German markings. The none German aircraft are mostly for certain projects, such as Norfolk airfields and MiG's. The modern US ones are just because I like those aircraft.

Thanks Tarnship.  When we moved in to this house, the wife said I could have two of the basement rooms, one for hobby, one for my music room, she gets the rest of the house.....works for me!

The box tops is the best part of the stash! I often just take out some boxes to look at them.

And yes, I like vacforms, I have build a few. They look intimidating but be turned into nice models. And since I like odd ball aircraft I have a lot of vacforms and short run kits.

Great stash Borg!  You have an awesome range of subjects.  You had more "out of the ordinary" kits than ordinary.  It was very interesting to check out!  Thanks!

Strange?  Not in the least!  I like the out of the ordinary aircraft in your collection.  Makes it all the more interesting!

Borg, how long have you been stashing?  (I wanted to say collecting, but then that might seem to be taken as 'off topic'".)

Good question! I think this is a 15 year stash. My stash grew quit fast when I was a student. Not because of excess cash but because I spend a lot of time finding the best deals. I bought most of my kits really cheap at vendor tables and airshows (example: MPM 1/48 P-69 for € 5,-). This rapid growth has halted, nowadays it is about 5 in , 5 out a year. My wife would like it if "out" would be a higher number.

5 a year? i got 5 on tuesday for $5.00 US at a club event. 5 planes and i rarely do planes. fortunately my wife is quite supportive. she won't through anything out before asking if it belongs to a model or can be of use. of course it helps i have a large house so i have a study for my library and displays and a basement for the workshop.

try this. i send her videos of R/C plane events (especially crashes), live steam and garden RR events, big model railroading layouts, and folks restoring fire engines and cars. somehow i casually mention how much cheaper my hobby is and i'm home a lot.

Club events are going to rapidly expand model builder stashes.

Same dealer selling $5 kits at the Butch O'Hare IPMS show Nov 2012 had discounted some to $2 at the Lakes Region IPMS show last weekend.

One guy picked up four, 1970s era Monogram Mig 15 kits for $2 each.

Some really nice builds entered in the contest, too ! Toast

That's a great deal.  Wish I had a club.  Nearest one is too far from home....oh well, that's what I have you all for! Smile

$2!!!!!!!!!!  You guys are killing me!  Same offer as Wayne, $20 bucks and you pick up some for me next show! Wink  Just kidding.  What great deals!  The show I went to (and it is the only one I've been to) didn't have any vendors doing that.
