How are you all fairing in this cold snap???

Better than flooding I'd say...

My wife and I visit Florence Ore along 101 it gets grey for days sometimes. Waldport ,Yahats, Newport are ugly this time of year.

Weather predictions for Illinois say 3 inches of snow Monday evening..............hopefully not more.

I love the cold but hate the rain.  If its over 70F I'm starting to sweat.  Its always been this way for me.  So I like the fact its cold now but makes for crappy painting weather.  I have a paint booth in the garage that had a hose/fan setup that shoot out the door.  Its  warm enough to spray there thankfully.  

I'm from Oregon and its been fairly mild.  Usually below freezing at night,  and 40-50's in the day.  I'm already sick of the gray skies and rain though.  

been through a few ice storms having lived in Erie Pa. for 25 yrs or so before moving to Roanoke Va. area  they get three inches everybody starts panicking I just laugh at them

here i Roanoke Va. its not too bad high 30s at night 50 to 60s  day time heated laundry room to use so not too bad

There isn't anything about 7 foot of snow that's normal, even in Buffalo. I read where they were picking the Buffalo Bills players and coaches up on snowmobiles to get them to the airport. And imagine 6 or 7 foot of snow on your roof and having to get it off before the roof collapses. My prayers go out to the people in that region.

Lake Effect? Pfffffffftttttttt.... where I am is called a snowstorm. LOL! Nothing out of the ordinary though but Buffalo, NY? That's the normal storm for them. Better them than me. LOL! They can keep it.

I've never seen a lake affect phenomenon only heard of it. My nephew is in Fort Drum. Getting ready to go down to Texas. So he'll have weather to talk about down there too.

I was watching on the Weather Channel the snowstorms around Buffalo. That is one nasty storm!

We actually got lucky and didn't get the single digit lows that were forecast for the last two nights.

But, Anne is originally from just south of Buffalo (Eden and Hamburg), and we have been having everyone back home of her's check in today. This storm is bigger than their previous "worst", what they call the Blizzard of '77.

edit, just as I hit enter on this, Anne said "c'mere Rex" and showed me a time elapsed video of the storm moving towards the Buffalo Skyway, the road that goes over the USS Little Rock display.  It looks like it was trying to suck up the entire lake and dump it on New York.

Tarnship sounds like you know how to be prepared and stay out of trouble by moving south. I think it's out of any of our control other than to anticipate and shelter in place as needed. The Air force trains survival north of us in Qusick Wa. Just makes me irritated that I don't get as good of news coverage and made this thread to get to know you all. we're actually warming up today as it's 32 at 1:48 PST.

Yeah, I have been in an ice storm, back in Wisconsin. That storm was one of the three winter events that made me decide to move to the south. There are a lot of evergreen trees in Wis, our yard had decades and decades old Norway Pines in it. The ice had formed around the needles (and the Spruce's "leadles") in a coating that looked like 1/4 inch acrylic rod. It weighed so much that whole fields of Christmas trees had their branches shed off. The country roads had that same coating on them,,,,,,,with the added fun of all the pieces of tree branches all over the place. (I forgot the hundreds of thousands of Jack Pines in the Pulp Fields)

That same winter was the one that Wis Dells set a new one day snow fall record for a 24 period,,,,,,and later that week, we set the new all time low for anywhere in Wis for below zero overnight temp.

Couple that with the usual count on the TV weather of the "number of consecutive days below freezing" and the fact added in that this was another of those winters where trick or treating and Easter egg hunting were both done in the snow,,,,,,,,,,and my car and truck couldn't drive South fast enough that August after my job's notice ran its course.

I am not a "cold wimp", dad and I are two of the people that had our butts frozen to the seat slats during the "Ice Bowl", in our orange hunting suits. But, I just got old and cranky enough to decide not to put up with thawing out the tractor to tow start the truck to jump the car because plugging it in and preheating the oil wasn't enough to get it started anymore, lol. (the "jumper cable dance")

The Pacific Northwest is use to these conditions ,but usually later in a month or so. It's 6 days today some of you are just getting the affect. Great lakes are making some nice lake affect storms. Any of you ever been in an ice storm? Got to have a generator.

Glenn might be "just fine" in Missisisisississi,,,,ummm, down there,,,,,,,but, way up here north of him, we are going to be in the single digits just before sun up.

Not bad for Nashville, TN, eh?  I have a Wisconsin accent yet, after 23 years here, it is hard to say "y'all got a tank heater for my car?" in a southern accent, it just feels wrong, somehow. (my first winter down here, I didn't know why I couldn't find a house with a place to plug the car in in the driveway,,,,,,I got a lot of laughs asking,,,,,,,,now, that doesn't seem so funny)

Dang! Huntsville looked just like one of those sprawling Chicago suburbs at the time I visited; thought I entered the Twilight Zone.

Just saw a news item about a book predicting a 30 year cold snap.

As this is only the second winter of that 30 year span, perhaps I should reconsider a move south...........

Alberta clipper maybe Winnipeg definitely the Yukon or Alaska tundra COLD. Cabin fever is a hard thing to deal with if your not predisposed to some sort of project. Everybody I know is never bored. And yes painting indoors isn't an option. The police radio is full of reasons to start a hobby.

Cold snap? Here in Corpus? Hahahaha! I guess we are having a little cooler fall season. There really aint no such thing as winter here. It is funny to watch folks dressed up eskimo style at 60 degrees though.

single digits in denver area. moved a workstation from bunker to study with 3 desk lamps with 100 watt incandescent space heaters so it's gets toasty. have 2 1/72 ready to prime. warm enough in the bunker but don't like spraying enamel in house when it's closed up, even with filters. so the first relatively warm day i will be priming a bunch of kits.

  It is supposed to drop to 6 tonight, so im thankful to have shelter and heat.   It is Kansas though, so I will probably be back to shorts by Thanksgiving.

As I've been saying the cold of this event is biting if there is any slight wind. It's going to be an autumn for the book. All your commentaries are better than the news take on it. I feel for John Q normal tells it like it is. 107 in Australia it's summer. Oil sand is in many places throughout the northern hemisphere was a smart mind to exploit it.Hmmmm  

Woke up to some icy roads this morning. MAYHEM IN THE CITY!!!

One would think the ice apocalypse is upon us with everyone freaking out as they are.

Was just hit with the edge of a snow front.

I suppose predictions of a repeat of a very cold and snowy winter will be accurate as last year snow also fell prior to Thanksgiving in Illinois.

Super nice here in Central Florida, 66 right now but a front is heading this way with lows in the 40's. Love it! Can't wait for the lower temps.
