Did some 6 plus deployments to Darwin with VMGR-152 back in the late 80's and always had a great time there. It's the one country I would move to if I ever consider leaving the states for a new home.

Unreserved apology Mick.  I have now put my glasses on and see that it was the OP, and not yourself, that posted the vid.  Once again, sorry about the case of mistaken identity...

Wirraway, you may want to go back and read the original post regarding Tony Abbot. If you put your glasses on you will see that it was made by Aussie Modeller, NOT by me, Aussie Mick!! So I am not taking the high moral ground and backing out on anything. I never mentioned politics once in any of MY posts!! Here I am saying that Aussies are a generally happy go lucky bunch and you go and cry to the administrators! Really?

Sorry Mick - but you made the initial foray into politics , with a video ridiculing the man.  Politics IS banned from the forums, look up the etiquette page if in doubt.  You don't get to fire a cheap shot and then take the high moral ground because you've succesfully steered the conversation back away from politics.  Anyway, I've reported this thread to the administrators.

No offence Wirraway, but that was 10 posts ago. After that a bunch of us steered it away from that subject and have been talking about the virtues of our respective countries. You my friend, are the one who has brought it back up! Does the old pot/kettle thing ring any bells?

I think the Tony Abbot thing is bringing in politics to this thread, which is not allowed in the forums.  In Abbots defence, I don't think there would be a world leader that hasn't put his or her foot in their mouth more than once.  In Roosevelts day there wasn't a video camera on you every time you opened your mouth.  Remember, a lot of people thought Reagan was an idiot, while a lot of other people warmly remember those years.

Yeah Tom, from what I've seen on TV there is some beautiful scenery up that way, and I do like me some Texas BBQ y'all. There are so many incredibly beautiful places, scenery wise, over there that I can't decide which ones I like best. Take it easy mate.

Upstate NY is really nice and so are the people there. I had a girlfriend that went to school in Delhi, NY. Beautiful landscape in that area and up towards Oneonta, as well as out west of there towards Ithaca, etc. Texas is better though Yes Out west of Austin, etc. Good BBQ, mate!

New York City isn't all that bad. my family and I have taken a bus trip there a few times and it's a blast to visit. Brooklyn Zoo, Radio City to see The Rockettes during Christmas, Rockafeller Center, Times Square, oh my.... Fun fun fun.

Cheers tankerbuilder,

Glad you liked your stay in OZ. we are a pretty happy go lucky bunch for the most part and we don't take ourselves too seriously. I have seen way more of the States than I have seen of my own country. I guess you take your own backyard for granted. I have driven about 20 000 miles over there but I hate driving more than 50 miles over here! And everyone I met in the US was so friendly to me. I know there would be exceptions (same as everywhere), but I didn't meet them. And I love all the different accents you guys have. You only have to drive a couple of hours and you will find a different accent. Our two countries are roughly the same size area wise but over here we all talk pretty much the same. Anyway mate, send me an email if you want to chat some more. The address should be on my bio . Cheers mate.

Mick ;

    I have a friend who was a train driver on the long straight run across the country .Even when ill or troubled , he never fails to greet me with a G'Daye Mayte !  very cheerfully . Love him and the great country of Australia .One of the most beautiful countries I saw on my second Honeymoon . The New Missus had always wanted to travel and we certainly did ! Ten months with one whole month dedicated to your fine land . " Good on ya , Mayte !
