Thank you Wayne. I had always hoped that he would serve, but never pushed him towards that. His choice to do so at this time makes me more proud. He could easily have stayed here at home, going to school and working his regular job for the next several years.

It's funny, how despite all their protestations, they can't hide that they actually respect what their parents gave them. Good job mom and dad.

Hey, Stik - How good is that? Eagle Scout and proud Airman in the USAF, ya done good in raising him. Four Eagle Scouts in my family, Dad and all three sons, a tradition I'm happy to see is carried on today. 

Congratulations to you and son, I hope he'll fully enjoy his time in service, big thanks to you both.

A bit over 2 years ago, my son made me very proud by earning his Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. Now he has done so again today by enlisting in the US Air Force. Due to his being an Eagle Scout, he is awarded the rank of E-2 at the time of enlistment. So early next year he is off for Basic Training and a tour of duty with the Boys in Blue. Maybe I can get some good reference materials on modeling inspiration once he is in his MOS.

 

That is OUTSTANDING news, Stik! What's his MOS gonna be (not sure if they call it an "MOS" in the USAF)?

My youngest son was in the USAF for 5 years as a dental technician. His wife is still in, and doing great. She loves it. I'm sure your son will to, especially with a military dad!

Thank you again guys. Apparently the Air Force does things differently... he puts in for one of nine MOS's, and the Air Force has a tenth option based on his ASVAB scores.  He will find out what MOS he will go off to school for during basic. Supposedly there are interviews involved and such. He has in for mostly mechanic type stuff, but also for a few aircrew positions as well.

CONGRATS!!!! As a former soldier and proud father of two children that served it's still heart warming to see and hear proud parents annouce that their child has joined the ranks of serving our great country. I wish your son great success and god speed in his military adventure.

Yeah we "Marines" know we're part of the Department of the Navy; the MENS Department of the Navy. Yes it is hard to be humble when you're one of the worlds finest.

Isn't ironic that so many Army Generals have commented on how they wished the Army was more like the Marines.

Model Man and Havoc, thanks. He is a good kid and I think this is just what he needs to get him going in life. I run into so many of generation at my work who are truly already lost causes.

Tiger, you remind me of a co worker I have known for 20+ years and whose locker was by mine for much of that time. Boy the place sure quieted down when he transferred recently to another assignment. Now in my service time I never did any hobnobbing with generals, and the few I did come into contact with up close gave me the same impression as the politicians that I have come across in my time in law enforcement- believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see...

Stik, since I'm not going anywhere real soon. The sound quality in this forum will be on a high end level. I figure your locker room became a very boring place when your friend transferred out. In my lifetime I've only spoken to generals during inspections and I don't trust politicians, but the generals I spoke of have been commemorated by the Army as some of their best. i.e. General John J. (Blackjack) Pershing and General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. So their statements regarding the US Marine Corps must be true. So what I hear I take with a grain of salt, and if I can't believe my own eyes then what is there to believe.
