Back in 1977 things were pretty rotten but SW was exciting, light-hearted and fun. Empire was darker but still a roller-coaster ride, the pre-sequels just seemed, well dull to me. I hope they recapture the fun of the original films.

You made some good points there Steve, now it seems everything has excellent FX, it's not a big drawing factor anymore I think. Actually the best 'Star Wars' movie I've seen in years was called 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. I'm more interested in the sequel to it than this SW film.

Bruce, very wise idea there. When I do see it I'm going to try to enjoy it on it's own merits without the baggage.

I'll be taking the family as soon as the hype dies down. Maybe the week between Christmas and New Years.

And as for expectations, I have none. I just let them tell their story, and if I don't like it, I won't buy the DVD.

........Seems Disney has copied the Marvel movies with an entire series of films lined up, I think this will get them off the wrong foot to start................

They could introduce " Transformers " into the movie plot line? Whistling

if this movie is perfect it still probably won't be able to live up to what everyone is expecting.

Agreed. If you look critically at episodes IV through VI and I through III for that matter, they weren’t all that great. They were fantastic for the time because of the visual effects, but all in all not great story wise, in the big scheme of things. It was the idea that was so cool. Frankly the Clone Wars cartoons and the aftermarket books have really carried the franchise and made the universe.
I like JJ's films and the ST reboots but I understand there are many who don't. I will watch the new SW with no expectations and let it stand on its own.
I am however very disappointed with most of the offerings from Hollywood. With a few exceptions there’s just nothing interesting for me anymore but 1 or 2 a year.

I hope the movie is good but I'm not expecting much. I was very happy to see Disney take over the series, being a well-oiled entertainment machine I figured if anyone could save the movies from Lucas's blundering they could. Then they go hire Jar Jar Abrams as the director- who frankly makes Lucas look like John Ford in comparison. I've seen two movies by Abrams, the first Trek reboot was terrible and second a friend talked me into seeing with him. If it wasn't for him I'd have walked out on it, I've seen plenty of bad films but this is on the list of the five worst movies I've ever seen. I expect this movie will make a pile of money but be absolutly horrible.

Seems Disney has copied the Marvel movies with an entire series of films lined up, I think this will get them off the wrong foot to start, hopefully they can recover in time. And beyond that with all the hype and build-up even if this movie is perfect it still probably won't be able to live up to what everyone is expecting.

Big bloated Disney flick, I suspect.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

.......The last 3 episodes were so poor, I don't expect much from this one...................

No doubt due to Jar Jar Binks having final script approval...............Hmm
.
I do not expect to view the movie in the theater; would much rather have restored theater versions on Blu Ray of the first three classic movies.

Three of us from work are going a week Tuesday (the 22nd).  We bought the tickets weeks ago.  I have high expectations, and hoping they will not be dashed.

I'll probably wait for the DVD.  I am not going to stand in line with the loonies to see this, or any movie.  The last 3 episodes were so poor, I don't expect much from this one.  It will be hard to exceed the first three movies of years ago.

Meh. I may see it eventually.

I'm more excited to see the roadshow version of Hateful Eight which is actually playing at a theater a mile from my house.

Usually, if the reviewers don't like it, its a good movie and if they like it, it's not good.  I'll probably see it in a year or so.  Haven't seen the last 1 or 2 yet.  Guess I better watch them first. Confused

Who's going to see it and what do you expect?

Me?  I'm certainly not running out to buy tickets.  It may have to wait for DVD, as my expectations are pretty low.  Sort of up there with "Star Trek: Generations".
