The Thread Shall Rise Again !
Posted by Sprue-ce Goose on Thursday, February 18, 2016 2:02 PM

As others have posted comments noting a recent spate of zombie threads being re-animated, I cannot help but ask:

Is the age of a thread the sole reason for FSM forum members to consider a thread to be a "Zombie Thread"?

If so, how old?

If age is not the sole qualification:  what other qualities are necessary?

Just curious. Hmm

Would a couple years be considered "years"? I just saw another thread that was revived and the last post was Nov 2013. And it's being called out as zombie thread.

Edit: I know I will use my best judgement, and I don't expect to ever revive a thread. Just like to know everone else opinion.

For me, it depends if its relevant. Mustang re-opening the weirdest kit thread is relevant because we have new members and poeple may well have added new weird kits to the stash. And its getting replies.

Replying to somone who was asking about AM parts for a kit they were building 15 years ago, chances are the OP has moved on since then.

Bish,

That was what I was thinking too, "Show me your stash threads". Something along those lines.

To me, it's all about whatever the op was trying to get to.

"Show us your Heller builds" or something like that, however old, is not a Z thread. As long as a response makes sense, it only adds to the subject.

"Need help finding a Heller Spitfire canopy", is not worth responding to after say a year, and is a Z thread. If the poor guy hasn't found one by then, it's too late.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Now I never said there was one, but if there were one, this would qualify. On another note, I wonder if he can revive ol' 229....Zip it!

But... if I did want to get my wife to agree to a $229.00 kit... I would make her a nice dinner, watch a love story with her, maybe a foot massage and then...... beg!

I used to check the thread author's FSM bio for the date of the most recent post.

Unfortunately, I see that is no longer possible with the current FSM forum softwareBang HeadBang Head

I think we have to consider more than the original post.  Another factor should be the last previous post.  If a zombie thread has been resurrected, and interesting comments made, then I think it is okay to post.  On the other hand, if the last post was several years ago, let it lie in peace.

Yes, and weren't we able to see "view members recent posts" or something like that? I think I used it here to verfify a suspected spammer one time and a troll another. Pity that's gone too.

I miss that feature. I think one reason it might be gone was that when threads got deleted by the mods, you could work a round around to get back into them in the admin files through the "previous posts" link. Then they fixed that.

I was rather surprised to see several threads pop up in the "Your Discussions" tab, one of which was over six years since the last reply. (Good Golly! How long have I been on this forum?)

You definitely aren't the only one who found the feature useful. I'm kinda curious how many actually used the feature to check threads before posting.HmmSurprise

It's really funny. My love, yes love of this forum is based on the motley crew involved.

Usually when a lump of memory about a subject perks up in my mind, it's in the context of "Bish had some thread about the Falklands when the FG.1 was deployed there."

So I'd look at Bish's posts.

I see your point there, G.

Thinking back, now I remember using the tool we are talking about to find older posts where I knew for sure who the poster was as well.

Come to think of it, once I used it to find one of my own old posts.

Geez, now I'm missing that tool even more. Smile

Goose, I'll look into a related app. Thanks. Geeked
