What’s your avatar and name mean and why???
Posted by Toshi on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 2:53 PM

To my fellow forum members,

Just as a curiosity I have started a thread in regards to your avatar as well as your name’s.  I think this should be fun a thread.  So I’ll start, my avatar is a Testors 1/72 Corsair.  The reason for this is that MENTIS had giving me a model.  By the way my accident happened on 5/5/2010.

Now about the Corsair avatar!  One afternoon the director of MENTIS asked if we would be interested in assembling a model kit. I refused to and walked out of the room.  Some time later, the director told me to just build it and show him my work of art lol!

I continued and refused to build the Corsair.  Of course I finally gave in and told them I have to build this Corsair on my terms.  I went to Hobby Lobby and bought everything I needed.

It turned out beautifully.  I took photos of it and the next day It was sent to California in Palm Spings for my brother.

I still see a plethora of doctors but each day I get better and better.  Most importantly it’s All of the Members of FSM that helps me and pushes me to the next Level.

So what is your avatar and name???

Your friend, Toshi

Ahh!  I forgot!  Toshi is a short version of Toshio.  Toshio is my middle name.  My full name is Allan Toshio Miura Jr.  In Japan they use only the last name first and the sir name.  Their is no middle name.  But since my middle name is Japanese most Japanese Americans use their middle names.  But in Japan a last name or known as a family name comes first then your name comes after the family name.  Did you get that?

Example:

John Fredrick Samuel

In Japan:

Samuel John

Toshi, great idea for a thread!

My avatar is me on my track bike at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter Farms, FL. I was an aspiring motorcycle club racer, until I crashed just before I was to get my CCS race license. That was almost 6 years ago.

My forum name is because I'm a life long Arkansas Razorback's fan! Woo Pig!! Sooie!! If you cut me, I'd, well, bleed red! Big Smile

My last name is Bishop and so my knickname is Bish. Just about everyone calls me that, my other half even finds it odd when my mum users my first name. In the army everyone has a knickname and quite often we might know some one for years and not know their first name, so it become second nature.

My Avatar is not personal, British flag with a lion in front.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Mine is  the venerable Monogram 1/48 Devastator.I remember really admiring Shep Paines crash diorama,so when I was ready to cover my first aircraft with Bare Metal Foil,it was a natural choice!

Thanks, Toshi. Great idea. My screen name: fotofrank, is because I take pictures. I shoot with a Pentax K-3 DSLR and a Pentax ME Super 35mm film camera. My avatar right now is a stack of P-51s. I took the picture at the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends back in 2007 at Rickenbacker Field outside Columbus, Ohio. I was aboard the B-25 "Pacific Princess" standing at the right waist window. I stuck my telephoto lens through a small hole next to the .50 cal just as the four P-51s lined up next to the B-25 to have their pictures made. I snapped a few shots and then they went away. Probably the best air-to-air photo I've ever shot in forty-plus years of shooting pictures of airplanes. My avatar changes from time-to-time just to keep it fresh.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Great thread idea, Toshi!

Mine is pretty boring, a pic of me and my first name.

But I often wonder about many of the screen names and so early in the replies already have many questions answered. :)

Tojo shortened version of my first and middle name,Anthony Joseph or To. Jo. For most of the 40 years I worked,my radio call sign was always 72,thus Tojo72

as far as the photo,I just rotate pictures from time to time.Im a big Raider football fan,and that was the one and only time I attended a game in Oakland.

Hi,

My user name is just my initials.  When I signed up for my 1st email account (too long ago to remember) I tried just using my 1st, middle and last initial, but that was already taken, so I stuck in an initial for my confirmation name as well (its a Catholic thing).  Since then I've been pretty much using those same initials for most things on the internet.

I used to not have an avatar, but this thread got me thinking about them so I just uploaded a picture of my 1951 Buick Special (which I also use on the Team Buick forums) Smile

My avatar is a MS-06F Zaku II from "Mobile Suit Gundam", as my fisrt Gundam kit was a Zaku.  Actually it was my second kit, but the Zaku cemented my fascination with Gundam.  It is also my all time favorite MS design.  The Real G name came from my personal prejudice against "fake" Gundam shows that do not fall in line with the original Universal Century time line (let's not go into what constitutes "fake" versus "real" as I don't want to go all Joseph Goebbels on you).  It's not a particularly good name, just something I came up with in a hurry.  Maybe I should have picked "Mr. Zaku" or something.  Back in the 1980s, some Japanese college students nicknamed me "Mr. Gundam", but I like the enemy designs better!  Cool

A fun topic Toshi!

Hey Toshi. Can you draw me a chart with circles and arrows and stuff? Maybe I will understand better. Hehe. Kidding of course.

This is one of the best ideas for a thread that I have seen in a long time. Except for my, Do you feel "cheated" thread. Nothing better than that one. Cough!

No Avatar for me cuz I ain't got nothing to show.

My last name is Bak. My HR person coined the name Bakster for me. In lieu of something better, I went with it for the forum. Truth is... I set it up on the fly thinking it won't matter. I needed it to post a question and then I'd be gone. Little did I know I'd become a permanent fixture here.

PS: you can blame the permanent fixture part on Joe Rix and Greg. It's their fault.

Hey Toshi! Great thread. My screen name is my real name, and the avatar is me at the controls of EAA's 4AT-E #69, which we lovingly call Little Ford, to differentiate her from Liberty Air Museum's 5AT-B #8, which is the Big Ford. If you are at Airventure with a handheld receiver, that is how you will hear us on the radio

My name means nothing.  Back when you could first sign up for a hotmail account, all the names I wanted were taken, so I hammered on the keyboard a few times and this is what I got.  I've stuck with it ever since.

My Avitar was my lab BarneyJo when he was about a year old and he just remodled part of our house and was sentenced to stay on the back porch to do some chillin when I took the pic.  He's gone now and I sure do miss the old clown.

My handle came from when I first got on Compuserv and joined an RC bulletin board back in 1994. I just got into radio controlled models at the time, so I typed in Scottrc and it stuck.

My screen name is the same as I have tried to use for all my various internet stuff. It goes back to when I was on jump status. A stick pusher is the last jumper in a stick of paratroopers, pushing the rest out ahead, my usual assigned position. I changed the spelling to keep it unique.

My avatar is a cropped close up from a  team photo when we were rigging for a training jump a few weeks before 9/11.

Intersting thread Toshi, nice to hear how folks came up with or got stuck with thier handle.

Armornut......I thought it sounded cool and experienced.....boy was I schooled LOL. Now I'm just Armornut, or Armor if one likes. I have a split passion between aircraft and armor, lean more towards armor but who knows. If I changed my name now nobody would know who to yell at LOL.

The avatar, she's a litter mate of my wifes cat, she is ALOT older now but still thinks I'm the only one who can "pink her belly" right. To lazy and dumb to change it plus. I actually like that picture of her, the look of "really your gonna say that".

If I could have convinced my wife to build and her name was Gwenn we could share this account as PAS N GAS!

Y'all should thank somebody for that LOL.

OK .... two totally seperate thing's going on here.

1: My Avatar. It's the Revell 1/144 Type VII- D U-Boat. I chose it because I love German Sub's,   It was  the first model to turn out "Perfect" the first time ... in a long time. ( it usually take's me a few try's to get one done right. )

Since it came out of my "Factory" perfect, I thought it would "Impress" the local's here and make everyone think that I "knew what I was doing". ( I dont . )

2:  My username. Back in Highschool I was a bit of a "Ner- do - well" and I had a reputation among the Parent's of my friend's . One Parent came up with the name  "Little Timmy"..... Because like on the old T.V. Show , Lassie,    LittleTimmy was alway's in trouble. ( What's that Lassie ??? Little Timmy fell down the well ??? ) The name followed me from 1981 to today. ( I dont get into much trouble these days ..... I'm too old to run from Police anymore...)

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

No avatar yet. Still can't decide what to use.

My name is what my older kids and their friends and their mother used to call me. I was the one dad who worked 2nd or 3rd shift so I was able to be at school and on field trips constantly.

I sometimes end a post with Bill B 2.0. That is my name (last name initial) with the 2.0 meaning that I'm version 2.0 since my dad was 1.0 (Senior vs. Junior). Doesn't mean that I'm an improvement just that I'm trying to follow in his foot steps.

Great idea Toshi. My avatar is from the MASH episode five o'clock charlie one of the funniest episodes in my opinion. The name Rambo is of course from the movie but also the name of my best friend a 6 year old beagle hound lol. I had the name picked out before we got him, in fact he should of been a she. The people we bought him off of told us that the mother had only females 8 of them when we got there she said she must of missed spoke it was all males, I can still hear my wife you really aren't going to name a girl Rambo are you? From there It's been a running joke to want to name everything Rambo, my dad does the same thing with the name Fred thank god my mom wouldn't let him name me that.

Great thread Toshi!

Well, back in the early'70s, I started racing RC sailboats. I was also big into CB radio. My "handle" on the radio was "Sea Fox" (the name on the transom of my boat). The name on my first wife's boat and her handle on the radio was "Sea Hag"(she gave that name to herself). The guys in the boat club started calling me just plain "Fox" all the time. A few of my HS buddies picked up on it and still call me "Fox" today. Some of my modelling friends do also. So, that's where it came from.

The avatar is an Artesania Latina (or "Artist in the Latrine " as the professor used to call them) kit of the "Spanish Maid". When we lived back in the old house, one day my wife started re-decorating the den and decided to do it in a "beachy" theme. She had a small fishing net that her father made hung on the wall with some shells looking like they were caught in it. She had blue walls with a border around the top with lighthouses on it, recovered chairs with lighthouses on them, and other seafaring items scattered around the room. She took a Dumas model of a rowboat I had made and put it on a shelf. Then she came up with the final item. She wanted me to make a sailing ship model for a large shelf near the door. I gave her all the ship catalogs that I had at the time and told her to pick one out. She picked out the Spanish Maid. I started it in 2004 and finished it in 2006. I think it's one of the better models that I have built, so I used it for my avatar.

Jim  Captain

P.S. I'm now working on a 4' R/C model of the "Emma C. Berry" for her that is going to be placed on the 1/2 wall in the living room of our new home. It will not, however, ever see water. Been working on and off for the last 6 months on it. To detail it up, some parts have to be ordered and others have to be made so it will probably take me a while to finish her. Maybe it will be my new avatar at some future date.

 Main WIP:

On the Bench: Artesania Latina  (aka) Artists in the Latrine 1/75 Bluenose II

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
