My name reflects my interest the child-oriented "space" shows on TV from about 1950, which I remember vividly and continue to document.  My favorite was "Tom Corbett, Space Cadet", hence I chose the name "Cadet Chuck".

The avatar is a model of Dr. Zarkov's rocket ship from the 1930's "Flash Gordon" theater serials.  The figures are molded rubber guys from my "Tom Corbett Space Academy" playset, made by Marx, in 1950.

I collect memorabila on these subjects.  My favorite ones are nearly mint, metal Buck Rogers toy ray guns, from the 1930's.

"Spaceman's Luck!", as Tom used to say!

Bakka is  crazy in Japanese!LOL!

Perfect! Lol.

Isn't Baka an Americanized short version of bakayero, the Japanese word for fool.

The Okha or cherry blossom, a rocket powered manned flying bomb, was called the Baka by US forces who encountered it at Okinawa in 1945.

Never let your friends see pictures of you when you were young. Yes, I bore a striking resemblance to Jerry Mathers from "Leave it to Beaver". Hence, the username "DasBeav"...The Beav. I'm a semi-health nut so my avatar is Muscular Beaver from the old Nickolodeon cartoon, Angry Beavers.

The avatar I'm using here is a shot I took of a visiting F-4 taxiing past part of out reventment area at Korat.  My name Itook from a character in a episode of the original Outer Limits series because I used to share some of its traits.  The 01 part is because somewhere along the line, the forums misplaced my original name and the only way I could used it again was to make a change, so I added 01 to denote the second time or re-incarnation.  I considered just using a 1 or even alpha at the end but this was simplier.

If you ever go over to the A.R.C. forums I use a negative shot of a B-70 taking off.

Alright, I’ll play along if I may. Great thread Toshi.

My avatar is Captain Nemo from Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I was absolutely blown away when I first saw it as a kid and when we went to Disneyland, I would always go to the “attraction.”  Which definitely dates me. It also directed my career choice of being a frogman.

By the way, Nemo means no one in Latin.

The handle is from college when I forgot to remove my glasses on the first day of boxing. The coach looked at me and said, “Listen Doc, this isn’t a Physic class so never show up in glasses again.”  The name Doc has stuck since then even in the Navy. The Idle is my last name, so you can imagine the ribbing I received althrough Catholic school...

Nice topic!  I too have always been curious about these.

My avitar is the late great Leslie Nielsen in Frank Drebin guise from the Police Squad/Naked Gun series.  Perhaps the funniest man to ever live (my opinion) and certainly my favorite actor.

My screen name comes from the movie Tombstone where Ike Clanton tells Wyatt Earp "Listen now Mr. Kansas lawdog, law don't go around here....savvy?".  Unfortunately I had to shorten it to just Lawdog.  Lawdog then sequed into my profession and 114 is my badge number.

Toshi...what a great thread!

My avatar is just the best fighter aircraft ever built.  My 21 year AF career was with the F-15 (both C and E models).  I know there are aircraft that can do things she can't...but when you went to war with her and spent all your time with her...well, she's special.  The name "Eagle90", Well...F-15 Eagle and 90 was the year I went into the AF.

My avatar is just a picture of me.  The name is from many, many years ago at work.  There was Mr. Mike, Mr. Cliff, Mr. Rick, Mr. Bob, and we all went around the stockroom saying, "Oh no!!!"  Just like Mr. Bill from SNL.  I held onto the nickname after everyone went their separate ways.  Today, I am more known as Mr. Mike than Mike.

Thats funny Mike.  I  worked at a place where a new boss would call us brother from time to time, usually while ribbing one of us out.  Over time, we all started calling each other as Brother Scott, Brother Mike, Brother Christina, etc etc.  Drove the boss nuts.

My Avatar is Londo Mollari from my favorite Science Fiction series Babylon 5. At times he is a comedic charactor but more often than not he's forever screwing things up  Which is appropiate for me as far as models are concerned.  Greatmaker is the name his people's deity. Again chosen for irony as well, as Pisspoormaker is too long

The name is from an auto body shop I had back in the early 80's.  Was a shop in Portland then called "Velvet Hammer" and I liked it.  Thought about it, and named mine Goldhammer to denote quality work.  Got away from it for a few years, but been doing it steady for the last 25 years.  42 years in the trade.

Also a gold prospector and belong to three different clubs and part owner in 3 mining claims.

The avatar is for my 4x4 club, Wolfpack 4x4's, based out of NE Oregon. My other passion, but not so much now that I'm older and been doing it for 50+ years.  I've been a snarly beast at times, so it fits.

Thanks for starting this Toshi san! I seem to remember a similar post but it was years and years ago, I forgot most people's explanations plus the forum has added a pile of new members since then!

As to me, sorry no great mystery or anything. I was looking for an online handle for some site or the other (I don't even remember now) and I'd watched a Gamera movie a few nights earlier and I love kaiju so I used it. Every once and while someone would comment of how goofy and fun the Gamera movies were so I just started using it on all the sites I posted on. So that explains my bizarre and abnormal obsession with giant turtles......

As to the avatar, again nothing special. I've been on '80s TV kick going back to rewatch my favorite series from my childhood. It's about time for me to replace it with something new, just looking for something to tickle my fancy.
