I second the motion of models and music.

My take on football is this; why would I want to spend my hard earned money to go see 22 grown men, supposedly college educated, chase each other around a muddy field and beat each other half to death risking serious brain and bodily injuries for the simple possession of an object that in the final evaluation bears a striking resemblance to a turd wearing shoelaces?

Simple choice, models and music

What he said. When I'm at my hobby bench it's build and listen to Epic Music on YouTube. After that the major sports I follow are Formula 1, Indycar, IMSA, and St. Louis Cardinals.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

I love and watch all four major pro sports, and have been watching them for 50 years now.I don’t like some of the changes on and off the field, but to me the games overcome all of those imperfections,I don,t look up to players, they are not my role models, nor do I encourage young people to look to them.I like some,I dislike some, but it,s all about the games.I don,t ever see myself quitting or the leagues going away anytime soon.My wife and I just love going to baseball games, have been to a dozen or so major league parks around the country, and now check out the Asheville minor league team close to us.

To answer the question by TB,well for me both, why would I have to choose,I often combine both, listening to a game or sports talk while at the bench, nothing will get me away from the bench as long as I have my physical abilities.

Nickname: O'C, because in the military you don't get a first name.

Callsign: Outrider, Used in aviation, strike rescue, tactical work, and as an alias for cowboy action shooting.

Real Name: Brian O'Connor, used in business, non fiction, and comparitively normal life (whatever the hell that is?).

Other: Brian Patrick O'Connor, used by my Mom, but only when she's really peeved at me.

I've never paid attention to any sports.  Football among them.  My wife enjoys watching skaters.  Yawn.  Not me.

I just build and paint tanks and airplanes.  Hey, Big Bang Theory  really hit home (oh no, a sports metaphor), with me.

We need to get you a handle, DeepSea. Any thoughts?

Football players sue the NFL I guess, or at least negotiate. Why, because at some point the Owners will dig around in the cushions of the luxury suite and toss them a handful just to make them go away.

Insurance companies will cover smokers but they charge a higher premium. It’s worth the payouts in return for a bigger pool. The big losers there are the rest of us who have to pay premiums to cover the riskier behaviors of the others.

Where I lose it with the NFL is the sheer arrogance of the Owners. I’ve had clients who were football teams, baseball teams, basketball teams and college sports operations.

The NFL alone really stand out as the super rich big business end.

A prime example is this protest business. I understand that the fans don’t like it, but the fans also don’t like spending $ 500 to take the other and kids to game, have a hot dog and a coke and pay extra to park.

If the Owners has been smart they’d say ok MR. Quarterback. Welcome to our practice squad, do your thing and see ya at the end of your contract.

Instead they invite a anti-trust investigation on themselves, anger those fans who support the protests, and create a lot of ill will.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

As some may have noticed on another post, I have sworn off most professional sports, with football at the top of the list. Not to mention the absolutely ridiculous salary, a good percentage are not 'professional' in life and not particularly good role models. Frankly, pro atheletes should he held, by contract, to a higher standard as kids tend to look up to them. While many give back to their respective communities, the majority don't unless it is done as a whole team thing so its mandatory. Then there is the politics .  .  . I'll not go there as it rather spins me up.

Ted, as for head injuries, which are an important factor, especially for kids, I have to ask this; How can a pro footballer player have the audacity to try and sue anybody over a concussion? for that amount of cash, you would think that they had a clue what they were getting into. And they chose this profession! It's the epitomy of a frivolous lawsuit.

It's like insurance companies. If I ran one, any illness with a cause directly related to smoking would not be covered, Period! We've known that smoking was bad for people for over three generations. If people are still smoking, it's their problem. And it's the same issue with concussions. If you intentionally go into a field where they are common, you should have to save a chunk of that hideous paycheck to cover your own medical issues.

Just my opinion.

I bet the popularity of this game dwindles as time goes on. I think its days are numbered.

People are learning that head injuries have longer lasting effects than previously known. It's just a matter of time before a school district gets sued and insurance companies won't cover it.

That's my opinion.

I gave up on the nfl after all the bs and the chargers left sd.  Dont follow many other pro sports.  But I dont fault any of them for making the money they do.

The organizations have created a product and a market like any other business.  There success is due to demand.  So look to the fans if you dont like it.

I dont like the primadonna attitude of some of the athletes however.

I am a big fan of college football.  Go Aztecs!

Thanks,

John

Football? or Modeling? Not a Rant !
Posted by Tanker - Builder on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 8:26 AM

Well;

Football is a sport way off from my liking. Now modeling, I can model for hours and not feel like I got run over by a train. The mindset for football the way it's played here in the states is Smash Ball.

Who's got the ball? Run him over, Tackle him to the ground, If he gets hurt, Oh Well it's part of the game . Hogwash !! I worked my whole life and make less than a Football player on sicklist.

I don't like any big money sport. Why? Well they forget who pays their bills. When's the last time you went to a pro game and darned near paid half your paycheck for a Nose Bleed seat?

I think most pro sports have gotten out of the realm where the working man can afford to go to a local game even . I do know as a retired person, if Green Bay was playing the Longhorns I couldn't afford a ticket on my income.

Many folks working, make no more than I do on Social Security. We can't even afford a ticket to a Spurs basketball game! Nope, I'll stick with modeling. At least I can afford most of it.

Whatever you think, don't go there, I have met many of the Spurs and they are not above spending a little time with their everyday fans. That is sportsmanship. They show up at our train show even. Unannounced! Just for their kids.

Haven't seen a Longhorn or Cowboy Player there yet. Some of them might like trains, you think? I just don't get it. If Sports is so Great then why don't we have ,say a real World Series in Baseball. The U.S. Isn't the Whole World and there some great foreign teams out there. Get my thinking? Sports Fans.

Is Football an Olympic Sport? Modeling is a worldwide Hobby. Our Football is NOT a worldwide sport. Nuff said. Now,when I sit at my bench an listen to movie themes and build I feel uplifted. I tries once to build an watch a game between the Raiders and the 49ers. I got so mad at them I massed up a model. So music is where I go now.

I still watch Little League Baseball. Great Sportsmanship! Great games and wonderful attitudes ! I don't know of too many Baseball Players with mental injuries in the big leagues unless it happens which it rarely does!

I think I will leave this alone now.
