Hi Richard
I'm new to this forum too - just joined today actually. I would recommend against buying from the states, unless you don't have a choice. The postage will kill you. Sure enough you may pick up something a little cheaper price-wise, but after you add postage & do the exchange, it sometimes works out more expensive. A case in point is the Italeri C130H or J Herc kit. It comes in at about $ 120 (give or take), & I've seen 1 here in Qld for about $108. England, on the other hand is a happier story, generally.

Hi everone, just like to say hi to all the the aussies here!!! I have been on the forum for a few months now and have just discovered this thread, its good to know that the hobby is still somewhat alive and well here in Aus. I have been back into modeling for a while now after a long break and am into 1/700 ships and 1/72, 1/48 aircraft ww2 and modern . I was wondering how you guys find buying models etc on the net from the many mail order companies, many of which are in the US. do you generally get good service, how do the prices compare with the exhange rate and postage etc ?? how much does it cost to bring a couple of models in to aus. or is it not worth it and do you just buy from the LHS?? any info ,suggestions would be appreciated! Hey guys
I've just taken possession of the Italeri 1/48 AC-130 kit, I won on eBay. WOW, what a monster of a model. It's a bit dated & will need a bit of fettling to bring it up to scratch, but that's what makes this hobby fun. Right? Anyway, the sheer size of the model is so damn impressive, I'm thinking of getting the C-130J kit to do a RAAF version. Has anyone out there attempted one of these?

WOW. I just stumbled on this having a wander through the forum. Certainly some inspiration there. I've got an A6M5 type52, Ki-43, & now an N1K1 to build, so plenty of opportunity to practice. If I can achieve something at least half as good, I'll be happy.

Guys
Can anyone tell me exactly what colour 'Seafoam Green' is? I understand it's the colour generally used inside our ACAV's. I'm doing Academy's M113 VietNam kit, which handily has the right cupola. I painted the interior with Tamiya's ijn interior green (sorry, I didn't know any better at the time), but it is obviously way too bright & light. Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks

Heya Shaun,

HeavyArty, one of the resident armour specialists, uses Testors Model Master Pale Green, and indicates that some people use Tamiya Sky (XF-21) in this thread re the Tamiya Bradley (Same colour is used in all APC's from the M113 up to present day)

I just had a look at the instruction sheet for the original Tamiya M2 Bradley (with interior) and it suggests a mix of 4 parts Flat White (XF-2) to 1 part Flat Green (XF-5) Haven't tried it myself, but I have a feeling that this mix may be a bit too green.

Cheers,

Phil

(Edit: Opps... wrong paint code on Flat White)

Thanks Phil. I'll just play around with it. I guess at the end of the day, it all comes down to a 'look', doesn't it? The common modellers saying after all is: if it looks right..........Reminds me though, I've got the Academy M2A1kit, so I'll have a squiz at the sheet & see what it says there.
If anyone else knows something, chime in. Especially some of our RAAC friends.

Cheers
Shaun

Hi guys......... I've just been told about this thread by Phil_H. Yes I'm a Queenslander, no I'm not behind the times, I just didn't go to far outside the armour forum before.

Anyway, I've just about had enough of problems with Dullcote stripping paint off my kits -see my latest disaster:
http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=52270

Phil suggested I post here to see if anyone can tell me where I can get some Future here in Oz? He thinks someone in IPMS imports it. No Pledge doesn't work, trust me. Grateful to anyone with some info.

Hey Pete

Do check out those sources I posted. Polly Scale do a product called Lift-Off, which I've used in the past to get rid of a rather poor attempt at a paint job on a model railway loco. You basically bathe the item in the stuff, & then using an old toothbrush, GENTLY scrub the solution all over the item, & rinse. It worked extremely well on the woeful paint Lima used in the 70's. Therefore it should work on the stuff we use these days.

Cheers again

PS. Have taken advantage of the new forum and changed my screen name from South Aussie to wayne47

Hi petbat first of all I'm sorry about that kit of yours, I saw the post in the armour forum, man that would've made me cry.

OK, I'm in IPMS and I think I know what you are talking about, a few meetings ago we found out Bill Wong of HobbyHQ http://www.hobbyhq.com.au/welcome.php was bringing in Future and had some for sale.  I didn't take up the offer because I have my own bottle already, but give Bill a call and find out if he can help you.

Oh yeah, I switched to Pollyscale clear flat a long time ago to avoid just the sort of disaster you had.

Cheers

Hi

I'm more of a a/c and naval modeller myself, however I prefer Stanbridges (just outside the city centre) and the Perth Hobby Centre (in the city). Below is a directory of the man HS in Australia (just follow the link to WA).

http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/shops.htm

This is not an exhaustive list. There is also a few little shops in the suburbs around the place.

Have fun in Perth. I'll be returning back home too for the Christmas break.

There is a votelet at hyperscale about the decals for the Classic Airframes Canberra. Here is an opportunity to get some RAAF decals on the kit when it is released. Even if you don't make aircraft or do 1/48 kits, please go and vote for RAAF decals.

http://hsfeatures.com/features04/tempforums/forum.htm

There is also a xmas modelling comp at Aussie Modeller International with prizes of the a Limited Edition of the new Mirage book by Paul Mason and Darren Mottram as well as the new Dragon 1/35 PZ IVE 3 in 1. There are also other prizes in the pipeline. So if you are interested, start modelling and enter the comp. Big Smile [:D]

Captain I don't think you have to worry about the weather, it's always lovely in Perth.  Although it does get a wee bit warm in the summer months (40 +) but at this time of year it should be beautiful.

Howdy Boys  Smile [:)]

My name is Gary and I am from Brisbane. I  model mainly aircraft (1/32 and 1/48) scale but don't mind building tanks, other artillery pieces and the odd ship. I have about 7 models in various stages of construction and hope to have at least two finished by the end of year.

Hi fellas Smile [:)]

Thanks for the welcome!!!!!!!  I was just looking at another website and found a couple of new releases for next year that you maybe interested in. They are from Airfix. They are an BAE Nimrod MR Mk1; MR Mk2/2p and R Mk1 (all 1/72) and 9 different versions of the Canberra in 1/48. The Nimrod is limited edition. It is one I hoped that one of the companies would do.

Cheers

I don't know if I'm on the list as I don't usualy venture down this far.

I live in Hazelbrook but will, somtime in the next 12 months, be moving to Grenfell.

As may be seen in other areas I am building a Beaufreighter and am looking for a DC5.
