Checkout that hangerdeck,in 1/700 scale??

I recently acquired a "DRAGON" model of the ANTIETAM. ,an angled deck carrier circa the 50s. The hangar deck is there in all its glory!.Well, with extra planes and tugs as well as other stuff you can do a bang-up job detailing it , I know, you say in 1/700?? Sure why not? The kit comes with a clear deck, I found though , that you can,t get it it crystal clear! What to do? Well do you like the challenge of cutting jagged holes in things? Then this is for you. You can cut holes in the solid deck leaving material around the elevators and leave it solid around the island. You cut your holes with wavy or jagged edges and make sure they are VERY clean when done. Do you have some old plastic CD cases around? Take some with the least scratches. Polish them out. Now, take them and trim all the protuberances and edges off the clear part,be careful !, THEY CAN BE BRITTLE!!! Now lay the polished piece over the holes you,ve cut.Get an extra FINE SHARPIE,  Now trace around the hole ON the clear part.Carefully trace this hole and make sure you don,t let the plastic move. Now cut the piece carefully remembering to NOT go inside the lines!!When you do this, you will want to use a Number 11 (NEW) X-ACTO blade and a comfortable handle.CAREFULLY ,using the tip like an engraver slide the tip around till the piece comes loose.Don,t force it , take your time. When done sand the edges carefully till it just SNUGGLY fits in the holes you,ve cut in the deck. If you like you can take .020 EVERGREEN strip and put little nubs around the edge to prevent them from falling through. Now take clear parts cement or watch crystal glue and glue it in place FLUSH with the top surface of the deck. There ! You can now see what is going on one deck down! TRY IT !! tankerbuilder
