My wife and I have 3 cats. 'Dumpster' (so named becuase as a kitten, that's where he was found as a stray) has a thing about rubber bands. Goes crazy for them. But it's not really so much to play with, as it is to bite through. He just bites through one, than moves on to the next.

He doesn't really bug the models themsleves, and really only wants to sit on my lap when I'm working.

Now...his other habit of eating socks...that's a whole different story (ok..socks, sweaters, t-shirts..anything you leave out that's cottony...he's part siameese and I guess they have a tendency towards chewing fabric...but he just eats it)

And the only good cat-hater is the one that keeps his obstinate and rude mouth shut. Sounds like EKRUB has to buy a ticket for a ride on the Clue Train.

Garyfo,

We have a cat that we nick-named Dumpster. Her name is Dumpling (Part of the same-litter Apple-Dumpling Gang. Fritter, Dumpling and Dude as well as some extended family; Kit-Kat and Sparkle) I started calling her Dumpster as a variation on her name and because of the fact that, at one time, she would eat just about anything and everthing in sight. She filled up like a dumpster and got almost as big as one!

Never thought I'd bump into someone else with a cat with that same name! Tongue [:P]

I have an 8 year old tabby name Binky who is one heck of a cat unless it involves models. I have shelves in a spare bedroom where I once displayed most of my 1/35 scale armor kits. One day, after coming home after work, I heard a noise from the back bedroom. I figured Binky had found something to play with and went back to check. He was on a shelf and had proceeded to swat off most of my tanks and halftracks and watched them smash on the wood floor below. He actually had the gall to do it in front of me while I was lunging for him! I lost some models that day...

Regards, Dan

So many cats............so few recipes!

Also I like the description of washing your cat(s) in the toilet. Pour in some soap, toss in the cat, close the lid and sit on it, flush a couple times (sorta like a "turbo" rinse and stand well aside when you lift the seat cover.....

Hmmm...

My cat tends to sleep in the model box too, no matter the size. She's usually well behaved while I'm working. BUT, I made the mistake of leaving my freshly completed M1A1 Abrams on a low shelf on my workbench. She came along and CHEWED OFF THE ANTENNAS!!! TWICE!!!!! So, needless to say, its in a different room now and inaccessible (HOPEFULLY) to her.

Guess she didn't like them tickling her face when she tried to look inside the turret....

Sorry Blackwolfscd, My post was meant in fun, didn't mean to offend. I think Mark IV went too far. I don't endorse cruelty to man nor beast. Best regards Woody

Oh, I took no real offense! Not even from our Ford-loving friend. I've been known to tell a heinously offensive joke concerning my FLFF's (Four-Legged-Furry-F.... uh... pronounced Fluffs) now and again. Kinda like Polish jokes, I'm mostly Polish and I tell Polak jokes all the time! The name of the game is to take barbs and recycle them!

Now that ekrub dude, he's another story... Angry [:(!]Tongue [:P]

As my favorite bumber sticker says: I like cats... they taste like Chicken!

Personally I really do like cats, but my 2 attempts at cat ownership ended in disaster (think Titanic).

My dad and step-mother owned several (one at a time) over 25 years and I got along good with all.

Maybe it was the wife (I don't know).

I think Robert A. Heinlein said it best. "Those that don't believe in protocall have never dealt with a cat."

Maybe there was already too much _____ in the house already? (fill in your own blank, my wife won't let me)

But, my 10 year old cocker spaniel (Tonya Louise) has NEVER given me any problem. Bless her heart, too bad the ex-girlfriend she was named after wasn't as good.

Not that I'm venting Smile [:)]

Jeez........I didn't think my post was that un-PC! Mr. Moderator, sorry if I "crossed a line" and required "removal" of posted content.

Perhaps everyone has not downloaded the "Humorsense" program.....

Maybe you need to volunteer some time rescuing abused animals. I did that for a couple of years. Most animals are simply neglected. But cats... some people for some reason think it's OK to mutilate a cat. I can't decribe the cruelity I have seen and heard about without becoming offensive beyond the limits of decency set by the moderators of this site. Let's just say that some of the things mentioned cat-cruelity "humor" really does happen. I have a tremendous sense of humor when the humor is funny. Even if I find it somewhat offensive. I'm sure I have done my share of offending. But when it comes to abusing people or animals - I have to draw a line based on my life's experiences.

MK IV,

I can't believe that they actually censored your post. Oh well, chalk one more up to the PC crowd, I guess. Dead [xx(]

Bubbamoosecat...

I have NEVER actually kicked a cat, in fact the worst I have ever done is "Meow" in a mean and threatening way....

Cat jokes are much like lawyer jokes....and my son IS a lawyer!

If you can't laugh at an "absurd" cat joke, you might need to fine tune your sense of humor. Heck, when I go to visit a good friend his "wifes" cat always ends up on my lap....and I haven't bit him, thrown him, cooked him or any other un-PC, kitty thrashing, cat juggling socially unacceptable stuff!

I'm sorry, I should have put in a line stating that I "edited" your post. It was late and I was tired when I did it.

In regards to moderation, we try to keep as much "hands off" as we can. I'll admit, that I have gone in and corrected some mis-spellings in the subjects (even then I'm hesitant), but other than that, I try to stay out of most discussions. However in regards to your post, we received a couple of complaints about it. I looked at it and had to make a decision. It wasn't about being PC (politically correct) at all. My guideline was this...if my 5 year old son (who is very interested in modeling) or my 7 year old daughter (who can read quite well) is sitting on my lap while I'm reading through this board, is it something that would be okay for them to see? I consider myself somewhat liberal with what I let my kids see, probably more than most parents, however my wife and I also take the time to explain what they see and answer their questions.

Now I'm not saying that this board needs to be maintained as a "G" rating type of board. We're mostly adults and also some young adults are here too. However, keep in mind that modeling is a family hobby for some people, some people do include their sons/daughters and even grandsons/daughters. Also to keep the hobby going, we need to attract the young kids, for they are the future of the hobby. Please keep that in the back of your mind when posting here.

Anyways, in regards to that picture (which is what I removed), I felt that was a bit over the top. In regards to being labeled "PC", I think if a "PC" moderator were to moderate this thread (and others), I'm betting you would see a lot more censorship. Give us some credit here.

Personally, had it been a link to the image with maybe some sort of warning giving the person the choice to make the decision to look or not, maybe it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm only speaking for myself though. Other people may think differently.

David,

Please accept my apology, I did NOT mean to label you as a "PC" thug...

Perhaps the cartoon was "over the top" for some, I got it from a friend in Canada (go figure..) and have sent it elsewhere. I DO NOT advocate any harm or mis-treatment of any animals, children or even the French!

I do know my sense of humor is a bit warped and perhaps I am too quick to post and attempt humor. Trust me, I would not want your job. I have been asked to moderate at some other sites and I have declined as I might be too quick to pass judgement on something that hits my hot button but allow something else to linger.

I am a member of PETA People Eating Tasty Animals...

I will try to behave in the future and please, if you do have a issue with something I post feel free to contact me and correct me.

I don't know about cats, but models and wiener dogs definately don't. I've lost the barrel of a Panther, two...two vinyl M113 tracks, and the exhaust pipe to a M35A2. And he doesn't just take the pieces, he chews em to sh**!!
However, he does provide some comic relief: he usually gets a little bit stoned from the fumes and runs into walls... serves the little bastard right!

Wow, reading these I hadn't realized how fortunate I am to not have cats. Although you guys haven't lived till you've had a couple of German Shepard tails clear your work off the table, or come in and found a Shepard trying to tear the squeaker out of a Tiger Tank.

Maybe cats aren't so bad....Nah.

Try a Shepherd-mix pup drinking the water out your decal setup-he really looked strange with the US stars-and-bars on his tongue, and I wound up heading back to the hobby shop to replace what he drank accidentally! -Ed

I can see I'm not the only Cat & Modeler around. We currently have 4 of the furry kids & in general, as long as I'm careful they're fine around models. Most of my built models are in display cases, but I have to be careful when transfering them to carry boxes for shows. Nothing gets their attention faster than an open case & open boxes. The one story I have to tell concerns our first cat. He was just a kitten, & we'd had no experience. At that time my models were on open display shelves. 1 day I came home to find my entire Russian Air Force destroyed & the Kitty got his name "Blitzkrieg" (Now gone to the "Rainbow Bridge" ,in his time)
Anyway, mostly they're no problem, Though I notice my Terry LaBonte Diecast Train is missing some Cars, I suspect they're behind the display case. We love our little ones anyway.

Those kittens are absolutely adorable! About 11 years ago, my late Prettyface had three kittens, of which I kept one; the cat I've got now. I wasn't modeling at the time, but when the kittens became active, I just about had telephone pole insulators flying around the house!
