John, whiskey, whisky, or tequila sounds good. I have plenty of each in the bar here. Wink

Aggie, those kits are some great scores! I do love the Monogram Mitchells. The MiGs & Sabre are nice too!

So the day before yesterday at AZ AMPS, we had our meeting and another continuation of the estate sale of a local modeler who passed on late last year. All proceeds from sales are donated to Wounded Warrior Foundation, as that was the guy’s favorite charity.

So, for a good cause, I picked up these items….

This one is maybe about 30% started…

This one was barely started, maybe 5% at most…

this really nice crew set…

and this base, of which I had recently been looking for something along these lines… plus a few odds and ends that really aren’t worth taking photos of…

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Aggieman

Four more additions to the stash.  3 are a trip down memory lane.

The three old Monogram kits are among the first that I recall saving allowance for to get from one of the local shops that sold kits in the mid to late 70s.  The B-25 was still in the original shrink wrap and included the Shep Paine diorama pamphlet.  But when I picked up the box that the eBay-er shipped that Mitchell in, I heard something rattling inside.  When I looked to see what was in there, it was one of the bomb bay doors.  Looking closer at the shrink wrap, it was actually slit open along the underside, and with the box being a bit beat up, that part just slipped right out.  I'm lucky that I heard that rattling, otherwise I'd have had to find that part somehow.

The Monogram MiG and Sabre actually brings my count of those kits up to 2 each, as I had bought the combo box set of those kits a few years ago.  I figure I'll build all 4 as a combo build.

I've never built a silver-plated aircraft.  I'm thinking that plating is like the chrome plating they will do for auto models.  I will say this - that MiG is going to be real shiny.

With those kits you could model a 1/2 hour of my life about 10 years ago.

I was out having a smoke at our factory that was located almost right at the end of the runway at the airport in Windsor Ontario and I heard this weird noise. Looked up and there was a B-25 coming. He was om approach and I don't think he was more that 200 feet over my head as he passed. About 5 minutes latter there was another weird whistling noise only this time it was a Mig 15 being closely followed by an F86. I all could think of was "well you don't see that every day".

Of course it turned out there was an airshow that weekend and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time as they were arriving.

I know where you are friend.  Been a bit of a whirlwind getting to AZ - just opened the last boxes so about stettled.  I'll ping you soon - I have some stuff for you.  And I want to see that awesome display room and sip a bit of whisky or is it whiskey ;)  Or tequilla if you're up for it.

Thanks,

John

A few item picked up at our local show.  The 109 and Airfix P-40 were raffle wins.

And I've been wanting an F-80.  There were a couple more, but in plastic bags and appropriate prices.  None of these were over $10-$15 (and the raffle wins cost me $20 in raffle tickets).

armornut

Loved that helicopter since I saw it in World War Z. Best part of the movie IMO.

I remember first seeing one in The Dogs of War... not an impressive sounding or looking machine after seeing the Hueys & Loaches of Apocalypse Now. But it sure is one sleek design. Very Euro.

My latest came in this week:

I built the Dornier way back in the mid-70s shortly after it first came out. My parents had just divorced, and I was not in a good place at the time.  I was 7 or so.  My mom picked it up for me, maybe just to give me something to do, who knows.  That build didn't survive for long, as I don't really have any other memories of it.  Since I've built the Tamiya Arrow, I plan to build this one in the two-seat configuration, which I believe was called the Anteater.

Oh, the Mosquito.  I had never actually planned to get that one since I did the Airfix 1/24 kit back in about 2010.  It is a huge model, so why would I really need another slightly less huge model of the same airframe?  Yet here we are.

Okay I said NO MODELS until I make a serious dent in my hoar- um stash...

I've been on a big Soviet/Russian AFV bing lately so I got this wild hare to build an Ukranian T-64.

So, sigh, here I go again.......

Today for my 75th, our youngest son (52) bought me this.. As I already have one and built it in Rothmans style decals, I've ordered some Bastos decals, used in the Belgian Rally Champs at the same period.

The other part of my present was the Airfix Bond Bug, which in 1/32nd is due out in June. I remember them on the streets in the day!

My latest arrivals

I bought this the first week of January from sealmodels.com (located in Hong Kong, I believe) and opted for the surface shipping.  Just came last week.  I was seriously wondering if the boat had sunk.

I wasn't really thinking about either of these old Monogram kits.  I recalled a couple of things that spurred me to go ahead and get these.  Way back in 1979, when I was 12, I was really starting to lose my interest in models for more appropriate things at that age, like baseball and my 8mm movie camera (girls were probably a year or two away). I saw that Messerschmitt in a store, had enough money on me to get it, but opted not to.  Thus I never built a 262 until Tamiya's release many, many years later.  As for the P-61, I had built that one when it came out, I had built it again a few years later, and then again within the last 15 years.  The fact that this was an original 1974 release that still had the Shep Paine diorama sheet included was what did it, as I have collected as many of the SP inserts that I could find.  When I was a kid, I only really built airplanes, so I never encountered any SP inserts in armor kits, but I have most of the airplane kits (B-17, B-24, B-25, B-26, C-47, and now P-61).

I'm gonna have to seriously consider stopping my purchases, as I had to reorganize my stash just to get these additions in there.

Gamera, I sure love those Testors yellow striped boxed armor kits. All of them were really good for their time, and hold up well enough today. I still have plenty more in my stash.

Cool additions guys!!!

Tcoat: The newer Hasegawa 1/32nd kits are really nice. You're going to love the Ki-84!

SP: Very cool! My first 1/35th kit was one of the Italeri kits in orange stripe Testor's boxes. They're nice kits even today.

This past weekend was the local model swap meet out at the American Legion Hall in Glendale. I went by and picked up these two kits

Great scores Tony.  I've never actually seen that Truck before.

Tamiya does a 1/35 PBR... dio coming

Yep. I have an 80% complete PBR that I started years ago and then just put aside for one reason or another. Not that anybody ever does that ...
