Here's another one I really liked. Saw it on HBO more than 10 years ago, so my memories have faded a bit, but I believe it was called "The Beast." It was kind of a "Mutiny on the Bounty" tale of a Russian tank crew with a demented commander in Afghanistan during the 80"s. The tank might have been a T-62...can't clearly recall. Had some real Hinds in it, too. Maybe they were eal...
Anyway, powerful flick.

That is a good movie. I have noticed it titled as "The Beast" and "The Beast of War". I have a copy of it.

Another one of my all-time favorite "war" movies (go ahead, laugh at me. I don't care! I'm proud of it!!) is "From Here to Eternity". Granted, it's not a combat flick, but it shows Army life leading up to Dec 7th. It's also a great favorite because my grandfather was with the 35th Inf Rgt, 25th Inf Div at Schofield Barracks during the attack (he arrived in Hawaii in Oct 1940). He's told me that the movie was accurate in the sense that inter-unit sports rivalries were big then, and your standing in the unit could be based on how active you were in the unit's sports team. I'm trying to get the Air Force to let us tuck our ties into our shirts like they did, but I'm encountering stiff resistance...

Just found "Go For Broke", "Gung Ho", and "Immortal Battallion"(British N. Africa) on one DVD for 9 bucks. Not too bad.Just saw that Battle of Britain is just out on DVD for around $15.00 at Best Buys.

Found a few more interesting films in the last few weeks: A Yank in the RAF, Darby's Rangers, Merrill's Marauders, The Blue Max( finally out on DVD), King Rat, Run Silent, Run Deep, Never So Few, Between Heaven and Hell(Robert Wagner, Buddy Ebsen, Steve MxQueen and Broderick Crawford-now THAT's an interesting cast!

Am I the only one out there who likes "Das Boot?"
... I guess not ... next time I'll read all five pages.

War of the Rats is good too ...

I read somewhere once that Clint Eastwood thought 'Kelly's Heroes' had a lot more potential but the final edit left a lot of good scenes on the floor ... maybe it's time for a director's Cut version?

They're all good!!!!!! war is fun! make war not love...yay... not really kids war sucks, but the movies are great all the same.
