Michael Danz,Santa Rosa, California

Not afraid to augment a vintage kit, Michael pumped up Aurora’s 1/25 scale flying car from the 1968 movie “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” with sheet-styrene wing boxes and a transmission housing. He made the wings removable and installed felt flooring and an air grate in the rear passenger wall. Pinstripes on the body, frame, and hood are hand-painted. He hollowed out the radiator for wire mesh and replaced the kit’s windshield with thinner, clear styrene. Running boards feature “no-skid” fine-grit sandpaper trimmed in brass strips. Michael says, “All the chrome parts are original and were in great shape when I bought the kit online years ago.”
