Convair’s XFY-1 “Pogo” VTOL aircraft is already close to the realm of “what if,” but Richard took it further, using spare decals to assign Lindberg’s 1/48 scale kit to VF-84 aboard the USS Forrestal in 1956. He used chart tape to mask the ladder’s stripes. “Masking and painting the kit-supplied pilot’s ladder took nearly as long as the model itself,” he says.
