Carl- Thanks buddy!  Can't wait to try those resin parts... some of them are better than the PE set that came with the kit.

Guys- Finally a real update... applied base coats inside the interior.  Clean up, highlighting, and dark washing are next...

I have to say I love those PE parts... life saver for me because of time restraints.

OH!  I am not sure how the last picture got here.  I apologize!  It was really a great game especially for my city Indy being the host.

Thanks for looking... hope I can finish the interior so I can put the Huey together.

Gene- Nice doll! Yes  All men should have a doll or two...

Guys- I never have been that sick for long... cold then sinus infection for nearly two weeks. But I am finally feeling better.  Returned my workbench last night to paint the interior of the rear cockpit.  Fortunately the birthday party has been pushed to March 3rd so I still have time to finish this...

More cool stuff has arrived this week...

Decals from Fireball... $15

I am very impressed with amount of decal I bought for $15 and instructions are very helpful.  Joseph from Fireball suggested this decal set because it fits the period Bob flew his Huey.

Upgrade set from Fireball... $16

Instruction from Fireball is great!  It comes with pictures... don't we all love pictures?!? Stick out tongue

Gino- Thank you for your suggestion to buy this set.  You are right... I am getting more just for 3 or 4 more bucks.  I don't think I will use all... I will definitely check with you guys first.

Gene- LOL Sometimes it is nice to have OCD but it can be a curse sometimes.  Glad my case is mild unlike my wife's father.  That doll is from GI Joe... my son got it when he was young and he stopped playing with it so it is mine now.  German infantry... he has been helpful making sure I finish my builds.

Ben- Hey my friend!  It was great of you stopping by.  Building this Huey makes me want to build another one but from Vietnam War only one day.  The guys here have been so helpful so you should try.

Marge12- Thanks for the nice words.  I bought those sets from Lowe's.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell 'Gladiator' storage sets... little expensive but they are so easy to assemble and they look great.  I am not that handy so I'd rather to buy.  Here's better picture of my man cave...

Carl- Dog hair?  Plenty of them... love my Border Collie and you are right.  His hair is every where now.  Nightmare for OCD folks like me... we have to clean our house more often now.  That's why I have to use plastic bins more to keep everything free of hair and dust...

Little messy at this moment... doing two builds at the same time which I haven't done before.  Oh, is that a StuG on my workbench?  Yes, it is back on the workbench as I applied decals today.  I wasn't in mood to paint the details of the Huey interior while fighting a cold.

Gino- Thanks again, glad you are enjoying my WIP so far.

Gene- AHHH!  Crew cheif has a bad case of OCD?  Just like me... I usually keep my workbench like this...

That's why I only do four builds a year because it takes alot of time to keep my workbench clean. LOL  Shooting for five builds this year... keep your fingers crossed.

Interesting about Plywood... doubt it was for better protection... maybe it was put in there to make it easier on the knees and butts of troops?

Actually, yes it was to protect the surface of the cargo bay. the crew chief got that Aircraft brand new and was adamant about keeping it in perfect condition! Guess some guys are just like that Smile

Carl- Always happy having you tagging along.  You are a good friend! Beer

Gene- I drool every time I look at that helicopter especially the displayment case.  The wife has seen it and she likes it.  I am hoping Michael or Hobby Lobby have a readily available displament case for that size.  There is no way I can make one at short notice.  Again thanks for the information... those pictures will help me paint the black top for sure.

Interesting about Plywood... doubt it was for better protection... maybe it was put in there to make it easier on the knees and butts of troops?

Gino- You are a lifesaver did somebody ever tell you that?  I just placed an order for the 1:35 decals and 1:32 upgrade resin set from Fireball Modelwork.  Joseph has been very responsive... he replied within few minutes!  I thought I already ordered the decals few days ago but I didn't.  I am fighting a very bad case of cold so my mind isn't with me today.  You are right for only few more dollars I get more goodies from that company... thank you!

Guys- Like I said I have bad case of cold so I doubt I will do much today or tomorrow.  I will do two tone color for the cockpit as shown in the picture from the FB page.  At least my black paint job isn't lost... I will handbrush the medium grey for the rear since all rods and pipes are still black then paint the padded wall with lighter tone of grey.

By the way Andy, if you look at the model Joe did for my brother, don't get confused by the floor of the cargo compartment. My brother's aircraft had a sheet of plywood covering the floor which is not standard, but Joe added it to the model. That's why it looks different.

That is a good pic of the aircraft.  The interior looks to be two-tone.  Only the cockpit was required to be flat black for NVG compatability.  The rear cabin was often left medium grey.  Modern UH-60 Blackhawks are still in this two-tone fasion with a black cockpit and grey rear cabin.  If you look at the rear floor and the pillar behind the crew, they look grey as well.  I think only the cockpit was black on this one, which was/is a common practice.

The CC Anti-Strela kit is good, but incomplete.  I recommend the Fireball Modelworks ASE set.  It is more complete and just as good as CC sets.  It is 1/32, but will fit the Dragon 1/35 kit without issues.  I used parts of it on my WSMR SAR UH-1H.  It is only a few bucks more than the CC set too.

For the walkway on the roof, the Dragon kit has the area that gets painted black as a smooth section without panel lines or rivets.

Andy

I have seen the small door in front of the main door have a different color on the inside since it was easily replaced when someone hit it with something. I suspect that is the case here, that it just hasn't been repainted. I just ran across that facebook page when searching for the unit. I was hoping they had a regular web page but I guess not. Anyway it also gives you some good info for uniforms if you have crewmen with the kit. The black on the top of the aircraft was non-skid walkways and did not cover the whole top. Let me see it I can find a better photo of that, it was on all Hueys.

gene

OK look at the pictures of my brother's model. Joe was a crew chief on UH-1Hs by the way. The picts show the non-skid section well.

Oh boy, after looking at all pictures at Facebook group... they all had "toilet bowl" whatever you call.  Gino recommended to buy this set...

Hope I am looking at the right set.  It isn't too expensive... $12 plus shipping.  The wife said go ahead and do whatever to make it work... ain't she great?  She is very excited about this after telling her I am getting plenty of help here.

Yes you are correct it looks like grey.  Front part of the interior still looks black to me.  Here's the picture from Bob's FB group I am going to use...

Was the front door only black or would it be safe to say that all of the front interior was black too?  Then I will paint the back half med or light grey?

Also I just noticed that the roof (top) was actually black too?

193rd also has a page on facebook that has some photos including the company emblem. There are also picts of some of the aircraft. In Nam we wore the Company patch on right pocket of the flight suit, but it looks like they did not do that.

Gene- how in the world did you find the Facebook page of his unit?  You are going to laugh at this... I see Bob in few pictures. No kidding... I hope he doesn't find this thread. LOL

That's Bob in that FB group...

I am hoping that he has an extra embalm of his company so he can add to the set after he gets it.

Thank you so much for finding the FB page.  I see few great pics and I am going to use them as reference.

It is probably a medium grey interior.  I have never seen a Huey with a white interior.

The cabin is looking good so far.  The aircraft interior black is a nice color.

The 193d Aviation Company emblem isn't usually a patch.  You probably won't find it as such.  His unit shoulder patch would have been the 193d Infantry BDE patch that you have pictured above.  The one with the bird is the unofficial company emblem that they would have had painted outside the unit areas and such.  You may be able to find it on google as clipart or you could copy it if you can find it on something flat.

Gino- now this makes sense... Thank you so much!  One of guys mentioned about making the emblem himself in Facebook Gene recently found.

Looks like there's a change of plan... In Facebook group of Bob's unit that Gene listed, one of pictures shows both white and black interior?  I will post the puncture in a minute...

Quick update... sprayed MM Interior Black inside the Huey.  I am so glad I bought the bottle by mistake earlier but it was perfect for the interior.  Not too black.  I hope to start to paint the details tonight if I am not too tired.

Another item arrived today... the patch I boughy via eBay.

The wife said it was a perfect match.  She sent me some pictures... it made me realize I am missing the top part so I ordered it too from same seller for only $3.50.

Is this his unit insignia?  I couldn't find it anywhere on eBay even google.  Is there a good website that sells military patches?

Thanks for looking!
