S61N by Whirlybird - Sikorsky S61N - 1/72 Resin conversion kit

About 4 years ago I spotted a model magazine article reviewing Whirlybird's new releae of a S61N conversion kit that uses the old Revell or Fujimi Sea King kit as a host for this passenger conversion.

As a child, I spent many years being flown to the Scilly Isles in the UK from Penzance in BEA's and British Airways fleet of S61N's during the 70's to the late 80's which made this model an immediate intersting challenge for me to take on. I have never worked in resin before and shyed away from it until recently when i decided I wanted to take on an interim build alongside a huge wooden build of the HMS Victory that I have been making for the last 10 months.

So here you have some build shots of the kit. Once completed, I have decided to make this kit with a base diaroma depicting the S61N on the Abbey Gardne front garden grounds at the heliport in Tresco (Isles of Scilly), so I have invested in some 1/72 scale passenger and ground crew figures that shall depict the boarding of passengers during the Lands End turnaround. Sadly the figures dont realy scale well to the interior which is very cramped but its only just for fun..

I would heartily recommend this kit to any keen helicopter modeller as it is not to be overlooked. Roger Evans who owns Whirlybird Conversions really understands the S61N and specifically released the BA livery options for this build of mine which he now has released as a standard option (among several other new liveries)

So, please enjoy and here you go - and let me know if you woudl like any more pictures posting as the build unfolds further although I cant promise a quick build as it has taken me years to get this fine kit moving along.
