Hey John!

Likewise, good hearing from you!  Glad your old kits went to a good home.  Hope that you are getting settled into your new home and back on the bench with minimal disruption.  Missing about 3 months of work with greatly reduced pay and sitting on my butt, propped up with pillows under my arm got old quick.....especially doing it through August and September....2 years in a row!  Still working on strength, but my doc gave me back my range of motion.  So happy for that.

My crew is always looking for orphaned kits, so keep us in mind!

Now that I can use both of my arms, hoping to get a start on my own Osprey.  Wish me luck!!

Dave

There was a WIP, but most of it was in the VTOL, STOL, STOVL GB - starting here:

Nice build keavdog! Did I miss a WIP on this?

I have this kit in the stash and seeing great build-ups will have me bumping it up in the to do list for sure.

Great build and nice display space too

Great to hear from you Dave.  Sorry to hear about the shoulder injuries - hope you heal up well.  Great to hear the club is alive and thriving.  I moved July of last year and was looking for you as I had a bunch of kits to donate after going through & packing everything.  They went to a good home regardless.  BTW if you do another round of donation soliciation I'll have a couple I'm sure.

Thanks,

John

Hey John!

OMG!!  It's been a while since I've been on FSM.  Long story short, I've been sidelined for the past two late summers-early falls with two rotator cuff surgeries over summer  breaks. I have done very little model building myself, but I have been working with my Cadets every week.  Our club has more than doubled this year.  I have at least 6 hard core model builders building everything from trains locomotives, jet and prop planes, armored vehicles, real space, Gundams, and civilian autos.

They are having a great bit of fun learning the craft and many are becoming very proficient.  A handful like to rush through and just 'git her done' and it shows.  After they seal up their fuselages and can't figure out how to paint the interior, I always have to say "I told you so!" LOL

We are getting geared up for the Old Dominion Open show at Richmond International Speedway at the end of the month.  The boys are super excited and are planning to compete this year with more entries than last year.  (By the way, they got blown out of the water by a pair of hot rod building girls last year....they are looking at a chance to beat them this year!!)

I hope to be setting up a FaceBook page for our club soon, so stay tuned!!

Take care,

Dave W.

Hi,

That looks very nice.

Back when I used to go into my office in Crystal City, VA Ospreys would sometimes fly over and you could really tell from the sound and vibrations that it wasn't just a helicopter passing over Surprise

They fly over my house almost every day out of Miramar MCAS which is about 30 miles west of where I live.

Thanks,

John

Remember seeing the VTOLs every time I landed at the Sunport. Only once got to see one begin to take off.

A number Army Viet Nam scans from hundreds yet to be done:

Have had the great fortune to be on every side of the howitzers.

I work at the airport next to where these birds are put together, Love to watch them fly.

My wife thinks I procrastinate. I just put things off till she forgets.

Thanks Dave and Demolition.
Very difficult to remove the shadow of the seam on the bottom of the aircraft.  Also, there's a collar on the inside of the nacelle that glues on which holds onto the shaft coming off the wing.  While test fitting the starboard nacelle the collar came loose.  So it rattles around in the glued up nacelle for all eternity and I had to come up with a work around.  Add the antennas on the upper rear fuselage after decaling.  I cut the refueling probe to show it in its retracted position.  I also never glued the proprotors on as gravity keeps them their.  And kept the nacelles off until the very end as well - so I deviated a bit from the instructions.
Are you still doing the model building with your students?

Thanks,

John

Hey John!

Great job on the Osprey!  I've got that kit and will be starting it soon.  I have some resin detail parts and aftermarket decals.  Having done such an awesome job on yours, any pointers or areas in this kit that were especially challenging?  Any pointers are greatly appreciated!

Dave

Thanks for the kind words.  A unique aircraft for sure - and loud!

Thanks,

John

Nice work!  Looks great!

Thanks.  There's a new kit out from Hobby Boss that lets you fold up the wing but its super $$$.  This Italeri kit was pretty nice to build.  And YES she's a shelf hog

Thanks,

John

Looks great John.  I really want one of these.  I bet she takes up some shelf space! Great finish.

Built this one for the VTOL group build.  Not a bad kit but had it's challenges.  I did her in the markings of the birds that fly overhead on a daily basis out of Miramar MCAS.  The Xtradecals were fantastic, super thin.

Thanks,

John
