Hmmm... Mac's made an interesting point. I've learned (well, still learning) a lot from my 1/35 Pave Hawk and DAP experiences, so I think I'll let the Hook experts get their hands on this first before I grab one. All the reading and google searching in the world can't make up for first hand accounts. I know someone out there will give this kit the kind of treatment Andy has been giving his MH-60L, and that's what I'm looking forward to see and learn from.

Put this all together and what you see is those who are intimately familiar with the airframe giving everyone an idea of where to start. If you want to build a a completely accurate, down to the last detail model this is alot of help. I don't think that anyone is saying that this kit is anything but a welcome addition to the market that can be built into a nice looking kit SFTB.

The MH-60L build has been an inspiration for me also. The difference is, we are seeing the info put to use as it is recieved. That is what I am hoping to see when someone is actually building the "Hook". It will be much more helpful then.
So, for those who have posted all of this information on corrections to be made? Thank you all.

Lucky for me, 500 was already badly weathered/spooged by the time I got to it. Couldn't blame me for that one!

And of course, I wasn't there when the D's started arriving. But knowing some of those characters, I can bet which of the boneheads screwed up their new paint jobs immediately. Same bozos who would break out the cans of zinc chromate and paint any place on the aircraft where the paint flaked off. Nevermind that the zinc chromate was a completely contrasting color to the IR Green..

I'll manage. I think the first one I build will be 500 sitting on the washrack. I'll wait for #2 to get crazy with the diorama...

Hi Randie......I few projects came up and the PHROG never got passed the custom cargo floor I posted. I have one project to finish then it will depend on the Hook kit release Tongue [:P]

Hey all!!!!
What's all the hub bub with worring about the incorrect stuff!!! I'm sure there are a few but ibelieve that they are very miner. Trumpeter did there home work guys!!! They got the rotor blades right!!! They give you the choice of aft rotor pylons and side sponsons.
These are the things that I was worried about for a very long time!!! Now I see that these areas are right and I am very releaved to know this. I very sure that Cobra Co, will come through for us on corrections and details for this beauty.
I'm so glad to know that this girl is FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! going to be here soon!!!!
I'm wondering about something though!! Is there going to be one kit with all the parts in one box or are is there going to be two kits??? They do show two itam#s and two box art photos.. Ahh..... Wonder............ Confused [%-)]

Who knows......experience says that MRC, Trumpeter, Eduard and Accurate Miniatures does NOT LIKE to give options like that in just ONE kit.....so I bet that we will see other HOOK versions soon.....or I hope I'm wrong.

.......and I would not call what Old Hooker brought up 'minor' ....thats like a model of a 67 Mustang with the side aft door trim of the 64, a P-51 Mustang with the bottom air scoop 16 inches foward from where it should be ( in scale ) of course.

BUT! its still not worth getting all worked up about.

Cobra and people like them are in the business of adding kit details....I doupt an after market company will release 'corrective' parts like what Frank has pointed out.

Still......No matter what......Its going to be GREAT!!!

Troy, Take a look at Cobra Company's line up again. They have lots of major correction sets. Also, since good ol' Chief Snake helped on the development of the model, he probably already knows all the imperfections. I wouldn't doubt he has correction and detail sets already done and is just waiting the model's release. Lets hope so.

I certainly hope that I did not give anyone the impression I was complaining, nor did I intend for the subject to contribute to the derailment of a project by posting this thread; I was simply making a first-glance observation.

No infighting intended... not meant to get anyone worked-up... just an innocent observation that I thought folks would be interested in. I apologize.

(I'm guessing the fix could be easily accomplished with a sanding block anyway... so no big deal.)Wink [;)]

I wouldn't worry too much about it Frank. Observations like that is part of what the forum is for. I will probably have one half finished on my workbench one day and the comments posted here will all be used to come up with a plan for finishing the project one day.

What we need is for one of the "experts" start building, correcting and posting pics and descriptions about how they made the changes. Then everyone can build a better model.

I'll be looking forward to all of your observations on this kit when it hits the shelves. There are quite a few experts here hopping around like kids on Christmas morning and it'll be awe inspiring to see the care and detail they'll be putting into the Hook.

Me? I'll be happy it if looks something like a helicopter when I get it all done...

Smile [:)] Mr. Dave Clemmer made the picture a couple years ago, and it came out better than anyone expected because the "dust particles" in the air resembled stars in the night sky! Wink [;)] That photo is the last one in their History album on my website.

That high gloss, dark green finish you see on some Nam birds...even 'over seas'......Is that befor the 'wash' or weather.....OR......were they painted OD after they were delivered to the air base?

Good morning Troy,

PEO Aviation decided to paint "Easy" in the high gloss finish for their display... although she was glossy for less than two weeks of her early life. I guess they figured the glossy "emeron" would be more durable.

The first two ACH-47's off the line at Philadelphia, #64-13145 and #64-13149, were painted in the high-vis scheme because they were going to be making several publicity stops before being trimmed/re-painted in OD for Vietnam, at Ft. Benning.

By the time they both arrived at Benning, the other two gunships were finished, but they came off the line in standard low-vis OD.

After crew training was completed, #149, #151, and #154 were transported to southeast Asia, while #145 went to Edwards AFB to undergo further testing... she remained in her high-vis scheme.

After the loss of #151 in Aug. '66, #145 was hurriedly prepared to go join her sister ships, which included "spraying" an OD overcoat directly on top the glossy paint... after a couple months in country, however, the "rush-job" became apparent when the high-vis markings began to bleed through the OD below the engines! [:0]

The Vets would rather see "Easy" displayed in OD, but the Vets had no choice in the matter... the airframe being saved was sufficient. Smile [:)]
